Also known as 'Badlands' this is one of the premier beach breaks in the country. Best surfed from mid-to low-to mid tide when the whole beach is exposed. Watch out not to get stranded by high tide as it submerges the whole beach apart from small cove in the middle where car park is situated. Waves can get fast and hollow, depending on the constantly shifting sand banks. Good for beginners but watch out for hazards mentioned earlier and stay out of way of locals as this break is very popular with them.

This one could be tricky to find but the best bet is to follow signs that will take you off the B3277 close to St. Agnes, on a stretch of road between Porthtowan and St. Agnes.

  • High season: Lifeguards, bar and restaurant plus basic equipment hire for the beginners.
  • All year: National Trust car park, toilets, beach cafe (open on winter weekends).
