Unleashed” on Cornwall - Razorlight and James Blunt confirmed for Newquay music event

The organisers of the Ripcurl Boardmasters Festival, The UK’s only World Qualifying Series surf event, have announced the addition of a new live music element to the event, the “Nokia Unleashed Music Festival”.
The “Nokia Unleashed Music Festival” will take place on the 5th and 6th August at a stunning cliff-top location overlooking Watergate Bay, at the end of a week-long beach festival built around the Ripcurl Boardmasters event on Fistral Beach. The two nights of live music will include performances from Razorlight, James Blunt, Rooster and Donavon Frankenreiter, amongst others.
Headliner on the Friday night will be James Blunt, who has moved swiftly from a career in the army (where he was part of the NATO peace-keeping troops in Kosovo), via a thrilling performance at SXSW (a top industry showcase for new music which takes place in the US each year) to a top five debut album. “Back to Bedlam” has been steadily working it’s way up the charts – the fruit no doubt of support slots with Elton John, an appearance on “Later With Jools Holland” and regular airplay on national radio for stunning tracks from the album such as “Beautiful”.
Also appearing with James Blunt will be legendary surfer/singer/songwriter Donavon Frankenreiter, who cemented his following in Cornwall with fantastic support slot for Jack Johnson earlier in the year, where he impressed fans with a soulful and funky set of tracks taken from his eponymously titled debut album. Donavon, who hails from California and first became famous for his talent as a surfer, has appeared in many surf films, making this an event he will truly relish appearing at.
Saturday night will take a rockier turn, with headliners Razorlight sure to prove a crowd pleaser. Winners of both the NME & Q “Best New Band” Award, Razorlight have experienced huge success, from their working with legendary producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, Talking Heads), through to the band decamping to Cornwall’s own Sawmills Studio, where they produced a stunning debut album “Up All Night” – with hits like “Golden Touch” and “Vice” showcasing the band’s talent. The band are confirmed for an appearance at Live 8 in London this summer, following on from sell-out shows to 40,000 people in March of this year. Their latest single “Somewhere Else” shot straight into the charts at number 2, proving itself to be an anthem which will resonate throughout the festivals this summer.
Support on this night comes in the form of rock act Rooster, who will be releasing their next single “Deep and Meaningless” on July 4th, taken from their debut album, which stormed to number 4 in the charts in January of this year. The band, who have a busy year ahead of them, with appearances at Radio 1’s One Big Sunday, to be followed by slots on the T in the Park and V Festival line-ups, always put on a fantastic live performance with their blend of stadium rock and killer guitar hooks. The band performed last year at the Boardmasters event, at an intimate gig on the beach just months before they hit the big time, and are delighted to be returning to the show this time around.
Other acts will be added to the line-up over the next couple of weeks.
The “Nokia Unleashed Music Festival” will also feature a Freestyle Motocross (FMX) Session. The Bolddog Lings FMX team will come down with their one of a kind truck ramp to put on a show that will blow your mind. Expect breathtaking jumps of over 120ft from the UK’s best riders!
