Virus Alert!!!!!!!

This does not affect those using Windows 95 or Windows 98 or Windows ME

It only affects those using Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003

A loophole has been discovered in these Windows versions which would allow a hacker to enter your computer through the Internet. It is possible for the hacker to get past any form of virus checker or fire wall. Once in he could cause utter havoc to your computer even to the extent of deleting everything from your hard disks.

Microsoft has issued a patch to solve this loophole. Microsoft brings out these patches from time to time to correct bugs and such loopholes and it is always wise to keep an eye on such updates and load them. If you click on "Start" you should find "Windows Update" somewhere near the top. Click on this and connect to the Internet. Follow the instructions to download and install all the Critical Updates and Service Packs, except that there is no need to upgrade to Explorer version 6 unless you specifically want to.

SORT IT OUT SURF DUDES!!!

AGAIN!!! VIRUS ALERT!

The latest worm virus that uses known exploits of Windows Operating systems is now upon us. This is an excerpt taken from www.symantec.co.uk the makers of Norton Ant-Virus and all Message Labs warning system.

W32.Mimail@mm is a worm that spreads by email, and that steals information from a user's machine. The email has the following characteristics:

Subject: your account %s
Attachment: message.zip

NOTE: %s refers to a variable string.

The threat captures information from certain windows on a user's desktop and emails it to specific mail addresses.
The worm is packed with UPX.
When W32.Mimail.A@mm is run, it does the following:

Copies itself to %Windir%\Videodrv.exe.

Adds the value:

"VideoDriver"="%Windir%\videodrv.exe"

to the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

so that W32.Mimail.A@mm runs when you start Windows

Collects email addresses from files with file extensions:
".bmp"
".jpg"
".gif"
".exe"
".dll"
".avi"
".mpg"
".mp3"
".vxd"
".ocx"
".psd"
".tif"
".zip"
".rar"
".pdf"
".cab"
".wav"
".com"
Writes all email addresses to the file %Windir%\eml.tmp
Captures text from specific windows and sends the data to e-mail addresses contained within the worm.
Uses its own SMTP server to spread by email.
The email has the following characteristics:

From: admin@<current domain> (The from address may be spoofed as if to appear its coming from the current domain)

Subject: your account %s

Message:
Hello there,
I would like to inform you about important information regarding your email address. This email address will be expiring. Please read attachment for details.

Best regards,
Administrator

Attachment: Message.zip

Message.zip contains the file, Message.htm, which uses a code base exploit to create a copy of the worm named Foo.exe in the Temporary Internet Files folder, and then runs it.

Information about this vulnerability and a Microsoft patch is located at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;330994
System administrators are encouraged to apply the Microsoft patch to prevent infection by this worm.

Number of copies intercepted so far: 42,342
Time & Date first Captured: 1st August 2003 12:28GMT
Origin of first intercepted copy: United States

This is rated as a HIGH threat to systems. Please update all your anti-virus definitions and if possible apply the patches as referenced at the Microsoft website. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. This is probably only going to be the 'first wave' of attacks in the coming weeks as there has been some flaws discovered in Windows operating systems as per my email last week.
dont say i didnt warn u !!!

It's easy...

Don't use Windows (apart from for letting light into a room!!)
if you have to use Windows, don't use Outlook for mail,
if you have to use Outlook, update your virus definitions daily,
or don't use the internet

The first one I think was a hole M$ left so the CIA/RIAA/Disney could get into their citizens' computers (good old America, land of the free!!)

someone found it, so they had to patch it up a bit (still there I think)

second one is a standard email virus, don't click on strange attachments unless you know their origin even if you think you know who it came from (don't set your email client to open attachments automatically)

I believe goofys is referring to Linux as his OS of choice.
The penguin is the emblem.

Its quicker more powerful and safer than any Microsoft OS, but can be difficult to use if you are not very computer literate.
