Ok , I moved to the South coast a few years back and now feel I'm a local . I'm looking at this arguement from both angles because I've been both a tourist and now a local .
Having our towns invaded by stag do's parading around in fancy dress at night and then wet suits during the day hogging the beach is annoying,( especially as a single lass looking for genuine local surfer dudes ) but as a local we do happen to have the beaches to ourselves during the week! or at least not at peak times all through the summer .
We also get to enjoy it through out the year, yes being cold isnt fun but isnt it all part and parcel of the experience?. I for one love being in water, warm is good yes , but cold is fine too and surely surfing is about experiencing and living , not worrying about wether you managed to wash all the sand out of your wet suit ?
Having the town invaded and sharing the awsome beauty of where we live for a short time is definately a good thing as it gives us revenue , all i would say is " would the tourists please behave esp the stag do's , even tho you may never see us locals again and noone knows u , we locals do like manners ! "
Rant over .

But unfortunately especially as far as local bar & club owners are concerned along with the hostels, B&B's, Hotels, Cafes etc. etc. etc. these stag & hen weekends bring an out of season revenue.
Money talks unfortunately

Not much more I can add to this conversation apart from yes I love newquay and yes I kinda hate it too recently.
Think I came down 5 times this year anda nother in novemeber for more surf.
When I first came to newquay it was awesome, tourists including me were not too many and most where people into surfing and so forth.
This year its gone out of hand...I lijke to come get up early surf all day go back to van wash with 1ltr water in car park go get food and sleep in van.
Repeat for next few days down there with few nights finding a nice pub which is hard now...
Recently the innocent people who come to surf and just get on peacfully now get tickets for just getting bit kip in a car park where we have a paid ticket to stay think many got tickets this year leaving me and many nowhere to stay to dodge a 60 quid fine for 4 hour sleep.
I used to leave my van open to stretch my legs but now with so many piss heads acting like bafoons Im scared of that incase they wanna piss on me during night or anything.
I walked down main high street to walkaabout and just see one after another of groups tottaly pissed, comma gilrs, screaming shouting, louting public vandilism fools everywhere. You then see these fools next day on beach about 2pm pissing it up on there.
After not being allowed in car parks to innocently sleep with piss heads allowed to piss in them the only place I could find to stay was sunny side and yep that was a good ole laugh there extemely funny. But if I actually went in detail of what I saw and who I met your think our world is doomed by future youth... it was quiet sicking the way some people act...as if it was monkeys let free in a town to wreck havoc.
hmm Im babbling on now as I have a broken arm from skating and iom bored.
basicly i feel newquay as too many louting piss heads visiting due to night clubs but main thing is i feel locals judge all tourists based on the fighting, louting sluty piss heads, there still are a few who happily come down camp it on beach and enjoy learning to surf and see the real essence and buety og newquay.
p.s did have 1 good night in walkabout with live band in august, real good laugh
sorry if this dont make sense typintg too fast with one hand and not chcking :0
P.S anyone see me surfing in august rip-curl weekend wearing the super man suit? wish I had photos cauight some decent waves as super man..thing is someone nickef that suit when it was right by my feet..barstards

I couldn't agree more. Whilst I appreciate how enjoyable it is to have an un-crowded place to surf, especially in the summer, finding and surfing new spots is a major interest for some. How people can try and stop them from doing that just because they knew about it first is beyond me, especially when you consider some people surfing 'secret-spots' and trying to discourage newcomers probably didn't even find the place themselves, but were told by others.
At the most I'd expect 'secret-spot' riders to ask newcomers not to go shouting around and exposing the place, a request that I would happily agree to. Trying to preserve a spot is acceptable. Trying to own a spot is not.

There's an easy way to get some relatively uncrowded surf down here in summer, just pick your times carefully, early morning and evenings are best, and back in the middle of summer, on one occasion, 5 of us went down to the bay on a sunday evening, and had the place pretty much to ourselves.
I guess that the people who come down here for partying are still asleep in the early mornings, and have left the beach in the evenings to get ready to go out on the razz.
Which means that at these times, the beaches are left to those who just want to surf .
No conflict, no crowds.
And these times happen to be my favouorite times to get out there anyway
You can't beat watching the sun go down whilst sitting out there on your boards with your mates waiting for the next set to come though, like I did for the first time this summer
Then headed home for a few quiet cold ones.
Or getting there not long after the sun comes up, and being home in time for breakfast after a nice relaxed crowd free session.
Guess I must be getting old or something
Or maybe it's the longboarder in me taking control.
Slo-mo
P.s. I ain't that good a surfer (I'm getting better honest), so crowded beaches aren't the place for me!

I hope the locals here in Newquay think i am okay.I think they repect people going to surf in the Winter, they get to know you.So when you go surfing in the Summer, your far more accepted.

Lets face it we are known all over the world as a load of drunken assholes, and with every new generation it gets worse and worse ie chav brings up a child in his her shitty mentality.
Political correctness is to blame, If they got the cane etc and were taught respect when they were growing up there would probably be half the assholes there are now.
Send them to iraq/afghanistan and use them as bait

Such a funny post!! I live in Newquay... and what i hate most about the summer is the lager louts ond chavs! The wanna be surfers dont bother me anywhere near as much - they dont mean any harm! The people that come down here puke and piss all over the shop and insist on chanting "Roooney Rooooney" or "England" at the top of their voices until the break of dawn. The ****ing chavs that vandalize the most random things like.. bushes and benches.. and start fights because they really are that bored with their own pathetic lives. They are the people that really piss me off! Having lived in Newquay all my life i'm now over it and sick of moaning about it it's just so boring! U just expect that it attracts oh so many chavs in the summer it and ignore it and get on with life, excepting that u cant park your car, or infact leave ur car on the street, have to pay tripple the price to get into your local club and have to avoid getting bashed on the head by a swell board. It' a small price to pay for being lucky enough to be living here i think, it's at its worst for 2 months of the year, when the surf is normally flat any way.
Cut the learners some slack it must suck to live so far from the sea, so they wanna give surfing ago.....what's wrong with that. I hate all this "im local get off my beach" shit. So ur local! Well good for flipping you! What do you want ? A medal!? Most ppl that actually consider themselves local are just not, they're from SA or Oz anyways or moved down from up north last year! The best surf isnt even in the summer anyway.
What goes around comes around so if ur a shitty then dont expect to be treated with respect if u venture out for a surf some where other than ur local break. its bad karmaa! Every beach on Newquay has a surf school now and if u wanna blame anyone for that, blame the media! It's that which has portrayed surfing to be "COOL" and attracted about a zillion new comers. But hey... they have just as much right to be in the sea as anyone as does! Its no ones ocean!
Newquay now has a bad rep because of the what the summer brings, its just cheap sex and sun weekend with a kooky surf lesson thrown in the morning after. .. its sad.

emmits r fine n dandy in small amounts but there are 2many of them here. in d winter we r da ones that put up wiv the freezin cold air from off the sea n the dead quiet town n freezing surf n then emmits parade in like they own the place as soon as the sun comes out n as unregistered says, we r trapped in our own town. the prices of clubs and everything goes up sky high so we can no longa afford 2go out or enjoy thing we cud in d winter, as we do not hav good wages like most citys do. i like most tourists n im glad they come here as it givs d place a fun atmpshphere but the twats ruin it. And as for in d sea, emmits just get in the way. in the winter thers just d locals enjoyin d surf even in the freezin conditions, but then summer comes n the sea is taken ova by thousands of learners on banana boards! i think its gr8 they r gettin in2 the surfin life but just hav sum repsect for d locals n dont get in d way so much! and by the way tallthinguy emmit is cornish for ants, bcuz thats wat its like in summa, town full of ants!
