I'm from Yorkshire and I've been coming to cornwall particularly Newquay for about 18 years, the first time i visited i fell in love with the place and the people, i found the locals in Newquay to be very friendly and the surfers also very friendly and helpful and not at all hostile (unlike in the film point break but that is a US thing, they're like that when i Skydive there)

Over the past 18 years i have noticed more and more clubs and pubs opening up which brings a whole new crowd of people. 10, 15 years ago you wouldn't have heard swearing on the streets, just loads of family's going to Newquay for there family holidays and spending there hard earned cash in the local shops.

I know of many family's that no longer go there for their holidays and what has replaced them? Stag and Hen trips, with my job i meet a lot of people young and old and if you ever mention Newquay the word is "ya great place for a stag trip" or "great for an all girls holiday"

Take away 50% of the pubs and clubs and you take away Newquays reputation of being a young persons party town, the drunken yobs will leave the family's will return and everyone's happy.......or are they?

Tricky

Hey Nuts, like you I have been coming down every year (usually twice) (from Yorkshire!) and this will be my 12th year, but to be honest I don't blame the locals forgetting pi$$ed with the tourists. They ruin the town and give it a bad reputation. I refuse to go into town on Friday and Saturday nights. Its bedlam and dangerous. The Friday revellers are getting hammered coz its their last night, and the Sat nite ones are goin mad coz its their first.

We have always come as a family, but to be honest, its gettin harder to find a decent hotel in the town that doesn't cost a fortune. Yeah we could opt for a bunkhouse, but I do like my sleep. Hubs would end up smackin someone. Caravaning is fine, but i prefer to be as close to the sea as possible. Each year I come back, they are knocking another one down, where am I expected to stay in the future?

We should respect the locals and in return they might respect us. Is that too little to ask?

Ss xx

I think its funny that they're building all these flats & they're just not selling! Or the ones that are are mainly empty most of the year!

Was it worth ruining the towns skyline for this ... NO ...

Oh deary deary me
Just dropped in after 6 or so years and actually read this whole thread. Recently visited Newquay and its the same old rubbish. Locals moaning about this, tourists moaning about that. Drunks puking here, locals puking there. Emmit means this, groccle means that.....yawn!
Where has all the fun gone? i'll tell you.......Nintendo Wii .
Thats right ladies the Wiii is to blame for all the fun people staying at home. I mean, i now surf just to keep in shape for Wii sports!

Actually if i may, i witnessed a few, and i use the term loosely nay even flippantly, "ladies" who could benefit from a few years on the Wii themselves However better not get too outrageous as "people" take it a bit too seriously."Good" i say. Let them take it seriously especially the gals.I mean to say that with all that cooking, cleaning and dieting they must get pretty bored not to say a bit hot under the collar.
As i always say let a honey read the same piece at 4 different times in a month and you will get 4 different responses....bless their little cotton socks( not above a size 7 though).
Ah well

I am, as the the title suggests, not surprised that after all these years the poll for this thread says all we will ever need to know where the locals and vests are concerned.
JACKPOT!!!!!
Ah well....
