1st Pics of the Newly Laid Mount Maunganui Reef Working

Hi,

This site has the 1st Pictures of the newly laid Mount Maunganui Reef Working.

Although apparently there are still some problems because of a couple of lumps in the bags and the fact that one side of the reef is filled only, the waves although currently short look hellishly good!

Pictures, article and full explanation here:

I think we'll have to wait until filling is finished in February to see the real results (maybe even a little longer if there's many lumps to settle).

However, it looks promising.

I never was a great fan of ther older individual bag idea as there always seemed to me (as an non expert) to always be too little control over the exact shape. These new sewn together pipes seem to provide a much more constant shape and thus potentially a more precise reef shape.

I wish they could get one at Newquay, but they really do need to address the price issue though. How can Newquay be quoted £6M when Bournemouth gets 2 reefs for £800,000 and New Zealand one for £1.15M?
