Yeah I am a bit artificial these days - not around very often.
I can't wait to see what happens here as there have been so many promises made with reefs but I think its fair to say we've yet to see one really deliver world class quality waves. Mt. Manganui looks potentially good but can't be judged as its unfinished so quality isn't what it should be. Funding has been the problem there. Luckily I think Bournemouth have a lot of European grants in place for redvelopment.
Personally, I just hope that the whole artificial reef problem can be properly cracked so we can start to get some decent breaks around these shores, thats not to say there aren't any, just that the quality and number of times they work is less than at many other places around the world.
Personally, also if it does work, I'd like to see a double artificial reef for Great Western. One of geotextiles to work at low tide and one of some other construction (fibre reinforced concrete maybe disguised with a natural rock appearance) to work at high tide. I doubt this will happen of course and if it was even thought about, the biggest problem would be getting the inner reef to look like a natural rock formation at low tide and not a man made blot on the beach.
