Artificial reef - update?

I notice that this Artificial Reef business was first mentioned on this forum in may 2001 (god I dont even remember that far back! ), I was just wondering if anyone had any up to date info on whether the idea's been scrapped/shelved/about to inflict itself on our beaches any minute?

As far as I know it's been scrapped due to lack of funding and the fact that the company have had a couple fail in the past.

Probably no bad thing, if it was that much of a 'dead cert' it would have gone ahead ages ago!

Take a look at the other thread about Newquay Reef. There's also some stuff about it at the A1 Sruf website.

Cool Newquay Reef

Hi! I'm a journalism student at bournemouth university and as part of my final year broadcast project i'm putting together a mini-documentary about the viability of artificial reefs in the UK. Obviously there's the proposals for the one here in Bournemouth and the one in Newquay. I think they are still moving forward slowly, there's meetings going on next week here in Bournemouth with the council about it. I was wondering if any of you surf peeps come to bournemouth often and if so would be willing to do a TV interview with me about surfing and the need for artificials reefs here (if there is any). I personally think its a great idea but hey i'm not a surfer!! Thanks!

Hey Hips, you get the email I sent you, listing the grant payouts for places in and around newquay. If anyone would like to see where the money is wasted go to www.objectiveone.com

click on YOUR AREA, move the arrow over the map and select Newquay. Go to projects on the left hand side.

It seems a total joke, especially where the Eden Project is concerned. They've been allocated over one and a half million pounds, to buils a reference room, and a special unit to watch plants grow at a certain temperature.

What a bloody waste!
