Unless I read it wrongly, I don't see any diversion of funds by ASR. What I read is a reported alleged diversion of funds by a 3rd party (possibly the government (?)), to pay for an artificial reef.
If that is what has happened then its 3rd parties fault not ASR's.
Also, don't come here blasting ASR, as an obvious reef hater, and expecting sympathy for the failed Mt. Manganui Reef when:
a) It was never finished
b) It sank in the sand allegedly due to being left partially finished due to lack of funding
You can't judge something when it was only partially finished and allegedly suffered damage (sinking) as a result. For that, you only have yourselves to blame for failing to raise the necessary funds to complete it in good time.
The real proof of the pudding will come in Bournemouth as with Mt. Manganui now allegedly defunct, that will be the 1st reef fully built to completion using the new system. If it fails, then fair enough, we'll probably all have to accept that artificial reefs don't work as designed. If it doesn't then maybe one or two New Zealanders will be left wondering what could have been if only they'd all chipped more into the reef fund.
