Talking the reef issue..

its a good idea and it is needed, ive lived down there for a few summers and it can get flat or blown out...im not sure of the cost of this but they should consider making two, as the peak is going to get very protected by locals, and there will be trouble, but its somthing we have to have go for it...

If you are a beginner, you can forget about the artificial reef - maybe on flat days only!. I remember reading the statement from someone who was selling this idea to the masses, and was highlighting benefits for the beginners as well, but as you say there could be trouble.

Exclamation

I live in York and the last time I went to Nequay the suft was quite flat and I was bored all week, I spent most of it crab fishing in Padstow! Artificial waves would be great for days like these, go for it our kid! However there are many other valid points raised by other people on this board such as the impact this would have on the locals. Would they like it? For the touristy point of view I could only imagine this artificial reef would attract more visitors to Newquay and it would inadvertantly become busyer than it already is and I realy cant be arsed to steer round people on lilos and rubber rings when being carried towards the beach at speed on the back of a 7' wave.

were i live they put a artificial reef in a little over a year ago. to this day it doesn't do a ******g thing, regardless if there is a swell or not... i would save the $ and use it to clean up your beaches.

After seeing the Tomorrows World prog it looked fantastic. Bi directional waves and a swimming channel up the centre ?
GOTTA Be a good thing. Mind you, the swimming channel sounds a bit daring ?

Peace.

Question REPLY :CASEY1

DEAR MR JONES ...
I WOUNDER WHERE ON THIS EARTH YOU HAIL FROM . YOU USE A $ SYMBOL ? THIS COULD DENOMINATE THE USA OR EVEN EARL'S COURT ,LONDON.....ERM I MEAN AUSTRAZEALAND ....
CLEAN UP OUR BEACHES INDEED!........ OUR PENSIONERS FOUGHT AND (OBVIOUSLY) ...LIVED TO GIVE US THE FREEDOM TO LITTER AT WILL , DUMP SEWAGE 1 MILE OFFSHORE , DISCARD BLOOD TAINTED SYRINGES IN THE SAND FOR INNOCENT PEOPLE TO STEP ON ! THIS IS ENGLAND DUDE! A LAND FREE OF SUCH "WUSSY" THINGS LIKE RESPECT FOR THE ENVIROMENT , RESPECT FOR OTHER PEOPLE AND THEIR POSSESIONS AND PLEASURES .
SO THINK AGAIN BEFORE SUGGESTING THAT THE "ELECTED " POWERS THAT BE , COULD WASTE! MONEY ON ISSUES LIKE CLEANER BEACHES WHEN A VERY EXPENSIVE NEW REEF WOULD GENERATE MILLIONS OF MORE £'S (SUPERIOR TO YOUR $) PROFIT FOR THEIR OWN POCKETS ....
HONESTLY THE CHEEK OF SOME PEOPLE!

Artificial Reef

Has any one any ideas whether the reef will create any negative aspects, environmentally speaking? I'm all for big waves but not at the cost of increased erosion. Will the reef create bigger riptides? Will the beach have to be monitored by extra lifeguards due to the larger waves? Will this lead to the beach having an exclusion to novice surfers and bodyboarders?

yeah, make the bloody bank. Why the hell not? Stop worrying about it so much and just make the damned thing. Who gives a s**t who thinks what about it? If there are waves then I, as a surfer will surf them. I do not give a s**t which local pricks think they own them. I will just go in there and drop in. b******s to them. I done the same thing in TEAHUPOO and esperance and RAGLAN AND j bay and Bells and a few other legendary breaks so I really do not give a s**t what locals are present. Always remember people that the sea is not a gentlemans club, it requires no membership, no affiliation fee, no locality qualification.....it is for everyone...and the day you forget this you forget what surfing is REALLY about...so drive up, skin up, drop in, curve that lefty, wipe totally out ,feel healthy, down 6 pints of stella, go home and I promise you it wil;l be one of the best days of your life.
Goodnight
Greg Cotier
