im from nottingham and i surf at newquay,im not very good at it at the moment but at least im better now than what i was last year, and i say stuff the locals build the reef,if it brings more people it means more money for the moaning locals, and lets face it if it wasnt for us they wouldnt live there either because they need our cash so they can have ther sea view, they should think themselves lucky ive got to look at the trent.

If they built a reef, it would be mostly locals that use it (you have to be pretty good to surf a reef), you'd just get to look on in awe at barrel-y waves where there once was a nice mellow beach break!

Not having a sea view must be why visitors can be so miserable,

guy next door runs a chip shop

had someone complain last week that their chips tasted potato-y!!!

Hey guys, what constitutes a local? Do you have to have been born and bred in the place, a minimum of 5yrs residence or just have a permanent address there.

I would never say I'm a local, but I probably know the place better than some. Thats because I've taken the time to explore the place, not just the tourist spots and beaches (know a few very nice cozy spots where you can get jiggy with your loved one - depending on the time of the day!)

Most of the people who I've com into contact with down there are either Londoners, Brummies or Auzzie/Kiwi's, so you cant tell me these are locals (or are they just for the time being?)

I know a lot of them are passing thru, but do they count in the bigger picture of complaining locals. Not had a problem myself (with them) but surely if they stick their heels in, there won't be the jobs for them in the summer, no?

Been livin here for two n a half years now and although I call myself and the kiddies locals obviously were not true ones.

It's actualy very difficult to find any true locals or Cornish people, this bein the same in Mevagissey where I lived before here, I often wonder where theyve all gone.

I'm from Nott'm as you know and am proud of it, I never try to hide that fact like some people but at the same time I'm not just 'passin thru', I contribute to the local economy, etc, so I call meself local.

Glad to hear you know the place properly, not enough people look any deeper than the obvious tourist routes. Know all the 'secret' places meself.

Said it before, you should be livin down here yourself, your made for the place
