I Know 16 Cold Water Surfers

I have just returned from the Outer Hebrides in Scotland. I was with about 16 guys and I was the only girl! I was cold whilst sat videoing them and I was dry and wrapped up! I know I did not actually get in and surf but watched while all the guys got their ocean therapy. So as a non surfer I think there has got to be some sort of magicness about surfing, otherwise why would someone choose to get naked, put on a cold wet wetsuit and go and jump in freezing cold waters.

The guys I was with were on a Team Trip for RESIN8
i WILL POST A PICTURE OF THE TEAM IN THE GALLERY in the SURF TRAVEL SECTION. Check out how many layers of clothing they are all wearing.

Surfed the bay this weekend, the water temp isn't too bad still, I was in a 3:2 with a thick rashie and survived. Its the wind thats the killer, thought my hands were gonna drop off. Made for great fun carrying a mal back up through town in the wind with nothing but numb claws to hold it...

know what you mean, the 500m walk up hill to the showers at cayton can be a real test of endurance with a 7:10 board wanting to act like a kite.each step is a killer as you fight not being blown back down to the beach.kw

Smooth, porsche engine, think of the sound, and all the turning heads as you pull up for a surf check...

Talking

Never been but really want to. Living in london I have had a yearly fix for the last six years and I am hooked, I just winter too, when I'm getting itchy from being on land too long.

But hey, starting uni this year hopefully so maybe I'll have a little more free reign to get down to Newquay in the later months.

Fancied a bit of winter surf this week, wave heights getting decent as week goes on but east coast is covered in snow so think i might wimp out.I don t actually mind the cold but theres something psychological about when the beach is white over, its offputting.

Looks pretty bleak this week, you dont really want the ice cream headaches BEFORE you get in the sea.Pity the temps are diving below freezing just as the waves are increasing....especially as the breaks in my area have been pretty poor lately.Looks like missing my surf in order to miss the frostbite.I really do enjoy winter surfing but guess there are limits. even the seals are wearing gloves up on the east coast.

Nice one west01,got to say you ve got balls....or had before you went in,who knows where they are now Got to say as my local break is in North sea winter suit pretty essential but i do prefer no gloves, hood, boots etc.
However,Went in at cayton today, fully kitted out for a change....even hired a gimp hood.weather was foul, cold, raining and a strong wind meant you soon ended up half mile down the bay.Once you thought you d found a cleaner spot it soon changed and you were just pounded again. That said, when the sea is calling you,you have to go dont ya.Wave height was good but real messy and got pounded from all sides at times, got caught by surprise a few times...certainly woke me up.Was in for bout an hour, pretty lightweight i know but this was down to a bit of knee trouble i m having at mo rather than weather. Two other lads(whos names i didnt get )seemed to be in for ages, top lads, hope they didnt end up blown past scarboro altogether Anyway,i still just loved being in the big blue(or should that be big grey) and messy surf is better than no surf Took couple of pictures but only on phone, will check if any good and if they are will post them later.kw

and one of me at the end, tired, cold, sore knee and a bit windswept but with that inside happiness that surfing brings
