Locals attitude

Chatting to my this lad i met who is a bantham local, he was telling me that the locals there really do not like the students who invade the break during term. Now since im gonna be on of these students, who is probably gonna be invadin this spot, im gonna presume that these locals aint as bad as any others, as long as treat the placxe with respect. But this guy was telling me some bloody horror stories of the place. Is this dude just using scare tactcs or is he speaking truth??

Mate, nobody owns the sea.Be respectful and if theyre still asses...f**k em,i hate localism. That said i think stories are often not true, most surfers accept all other surfers and rightly so.

by the way welcome to the forum

Exclamation

Hey. Just respect the locals, wait your turn to get a wave... try not to get in the way and whatever you do dont drop in on a local. I think it's a load of bull to be honest, no one has anymore right to be there more than anyone else. Its so petty and lame. There are loads of tales about localism, most of them have a vague bit of truth in them, but A LOT have been exaggarated and blown out of preportion. For instance that local you were talking to would have been trying his best to put you and your mates going surfing at this local spot.

The good surfers wont cause you any hassle, they wont be threatened by you, they'll just get on with what they're doing and probably just drop in on you. It's mainly the agro surfers who are frustrated with they're own surfing who get mouthy at others.. A lot ppl arent even local, they just think they are, and get overprotective about their beach break thinking it's something amazing like Snapper rocks, when it's just not!

There's no need to get agro in the water its just ruins surfing. If people hate crowds so much they should drive some where different. I have no time for shitty locals, surfers should just get over the fact that what they do is becoming so accessable and mainstream, because although its a pain in the arse there's nothing they can do about it. Just respect the locals and you'll be fine. Also you could try going surfing when it's not too busy, like in the mornings... good luck.

I seen that s**t too with the locals only scrawl & to say I was happy was an understatement.
People have already said its just a case of being polite & fair regardless of local or not.
The only thing that does hack me off though is on TOWAN when it clearly states no stand up boards and they come across anyway ... that I did have a go at someone for the other week ...

It must get pretty annoying for the locals but to be honest we went for a week to newquay with 14 of us and we had no trouble. the only bit of trouble we had was with this woman....someone dropped a can on the floor (none of us!!) there was 3 of us girls going into superdrug and this lady went crazy, she was really shouting at us about dropping this can, we didnt have a clue what she was on about and then she just shouted ' WE HAVE TO LIVE HERE!!!!' and after the only thing that peed me off about it was how did she know that we didnt live there (i know we dont) but just because we are like 18 she automatically assumed we were from somewhere else and making trouble. I would have loved to turn around and shout 'WE LIVE HERE TOO!!!' she would have been like :| lol but as i said we had no more problems

Good job the 'locals' aren't similar to those in the HILLS HAVE EYES ... or your tongue may get nailed to your door

As I've said in the past the twats who start tryin to get all terratorial are the 'yokel wannabies' who I normally find are the ones that at some point have moved down to my beloved Kernow at some point in their lives ...
