Fistral Beach
Take Your !&%$£@~! Rubbish Home With You.....!
Went for a surf this morning...
...a couple were at the water's edge taking photos
(flashy 'SLR', big lense, so they were semi-serious shots, not just 'happy snaps'. Probably for some college course)...
...the scene was impressive big stormy seas (pants for surfing, but an interesting seascape), sun just appearing through the clouds...
...when they'd finished, they started walking back up the beach...
...leaving a Safeway shopping trolley at the water's edge
(the one they dragged down the beach to use as a camera stand!!)...
Maybe they were setting up for an 'action shot'...
..."Drowning bather", or "Surfer with broken board & bloddy nose" would probably look quite good in their portfolio...
As I walked down the beach towards them (giving them the evilest stare I could muster), they realised the error of their ways and went back for the trolley (if I hadn't been going for a surf this morning, I think it would probably be below the water line by about now).
Fistral looks like a tip in the mornings in summer, litter and empty carrier bags everywhere, all the cr@p came down in the carrier bags, Bag it and Bin it, if you're too lazy to carry your cr@p 'till you walk past a bin, at least bag it, that'd be something.
Walking to the beach barefoot to go surfing is a challenge too...
...dog sh!t everywhere!!!
In the winter, Newquay has clean beaches, no dog sh!t on the paths,
so it must be the tourists that turn the place into a pigsty for the summer...
...the same tourists that complain about the quality of the bathing water,
the lack of facilities, the town looking scruffy...
If the council didn't have to employ a tribe of wombles to wipe your ar5es,
maybe they could invest the money in improving the quality of your holiday!
HAVE A BIT OF RESPECT FOR THE PLACE...!!!
...end of rant.

well said dude, it always amazes me that people manage to take a life time supply of food and drink to the beach but never seam able to carry the much lighter remains back!
It happens everywhere, we were walking in dartmoor a few weeks ago and still found litter in places people must have walked a couple of hours to get to.
as they say...
take nothing but pictures
leave nothing but footprints

Well done!!! I don't know if I could keep that calm. TROLLEY FFS!!!
Oh well, with that out, I must confess that I am guilty of leaving something on the beach: best time of my life .

Well said Goofy's, about time someone voiced out about this. I was on Whip's beach this afternoon and was disgusted to see the rubbish that a large group of teen-scene's left after them. It's just sheer lazyness and complete apathy. Two summers back my son gashed his foot on a discarded disposable barbeque mesh. If you're going to use our beaches people then clear up after you. It isn't difficult to do and like 62microbus says, it's easier to take back than bring with you. Grow up and show some responsibility.

Hmmm...how about 'Clean Beaches' campaign on this site? I could create a small add to go next to the main add - oh yes, you can see that empty space.
I would also invite any other ideas you may have, so that we can raise the awareness of Newquay visitors to this problem.
Keep Newquay's Beaches Tidy
Leave Them As You Would Like To Find Them
or something....

I know what you mean mate, makes you wanna strap them to the shopping trolley and push them of a cliff somewhere. I find the older generation to be the worst and they should know better.

and were not all the same. If they were that serious, they would have had a tripod, and never have used the trolley. Maybe it was a prop!
I never leave my litter on the beach, and if the bins are full, then I take it with me. I understand your gripe, but I've taken this a little personally

Seaslave, c'mon babe, chill. You know Andy too well by now to take his gripe personally. You were probably the last person on his mind when he wrote it. I'm a student to and I never thought of it being directed at me. You know who he's talking to, certainly not you, I can't imagine you messing up these beaches that you love so much. Anyway, lecture over, not long till you and yours are down here now is it, bet you're flying!

Hi Seaslave,
It was the 'hippy-looking tree hugger' girl with 'dredlocks & tie-dye' taking the photo's, and the 'boy-racer-looking' boy from the 'checked shirt bigade' who said "we'd best go back and get the trolley" when they'd got half way up the beach.
No stereotypes intended,
I was just shocked that a so-called artist could see the beauty of the scene, and then be so selfish? irresponsible? not to leave it for everyone else.
My comments were intended for the people who make the mess, 97 people have read this thread in 4 days, if the message gets through to just a few people, they feel a bit guilty, make an effort, then it was probably worth upsetting the people who do make an effort, and object to being lumped in the same category 'Tourist'.
I've been a student myself (twice), and I'd love be an artist of some sort (if I had the time)

Soz guys,
Had a bad week, what with the dog, blazing sunshine, soaring temperatures and having to work most of the time up to my elbows in s**t! (Can't you tell I love my job)
Things are looking a bit brighter today. Got the day off, so I'm gonna catch some rays later.

Seaslave, did you manage to top up your tan today? I realy hope this weather holds for your upcoming holiday. If only it were like this 24/7 there would be nowhere nicer in the world to live than Newquay. I was on the beach by 10am thismorning, in the sea, no wettie and still found it hard to cool off! See you down the beach.

The tan's coming on nicely, thank-ya-very-much.
Over the depression, and back on form. When I think of my hols, I feel sick with excitement. We've just got a new car, so it will cut the journey by quite a bit I think.
Been out buying bits, suncream, cozzie, knickers etc, everything I might need for the next few weeks. Can't beleive it's only a week away, only five more shifts to do at Pooh City. God knows I need the break!
Can you tell me how to find Whip Beach. Is it inbetween Porth & Watergate. I don't think I've been there, and I will need somwhere quiet to practice once I've had my lessons.
Please send directions via PM or e-mail if you don't want the rest of the population to find it
HOPE YOU LIKE THE SURF-NUTS

Seaslave, Hi again! Glad you are over your depressions, life's too short, etc. Secrets out already, I guess, Whips' was featured in one of the national newspapers recently as one of the best beaches in Britain! You've already been on it I think as you have mentioned previosly about a "beautiful little cove with steep steps down to it". It's kind of a home from home for me, I'm either there or down in the harbour. I try to keep away from the crowds if poss. It's a good way from the Narrowcliffe, (I think that's where you are stopping), but worth the journey. Not sure your lad will be impressed though, no shops, etc and also no lifeguards. If you are surfing there be carefull not to go too close to the rocks near Porth bridge, you get some nasty rips there. One pulled me right out to the point of Porth island last year, took me over a hour to get back in. Look out for me and come and say hello!

is that the bit with the sign post on the gate saying about walking to watergate at low tide etc, if it is the tide is nasty there, it comes right up the rocks!

Cheers SOH,
I might just give it a try. I will keep my eyes peeled for you, on your bike (red, yeah?) ponytail and board under your arm.
If you hear someone shout 'HIPPIE', have a good scout round for me.
See ya.
