Depends how near the town you want to be - we camped last year at Watergate Bay Campsite (about 10-15mins walk from Watergate Bay - but uphill on the way back!!!) which was the only site i could find to accept visitors who weren't either family or a couple. Nice site, got it's own bar for starters! but is 5 miles out of Newquay. Having said that though, Watergate Bay is said to be nearly as good as Fistral (i haven't tried it myself though) and there are a lot less maniacs waiting to mow you down as soon as you find a good wave.
If in doubt though, give the local tourist information a ring (01637) 854020 and tell them what you need.

Magic Cove ??? (am i just being naive here??)
Watergate was mostly tourists - b*gger all else there other than a couple of hotels and the campsite.
the area is still quite busy though (and seemed fairly young) and there's a nice boozer within reach of the beaach!

Talking 18 to 30's Holiday Park

A great place to try would be Sunnyside Holiday Park. Its an 18 to 30's site and welcomes group bookings. Its got a bus that runs every 20mins from the site to Newquay until 3am that goes past many of the beaches and into the town centre and there are loads of facilitites on site. The telephone number is 01637 873338, or alternatively visit www.sunnyside.co.uk.

Thumbs up

I have been to Newquay for the last two years and will be back down again this year for the early part of August. Both years my mates and I have have stopped on the Tregustick Camp Site. Its next door to Smugglers Haven and is the last stop on the bus route to and from Newquay town centre.
Its not an 18-30 site but what we usually do is just go and blag our way on Smugglers at night if we are in search of some action and adventure (I'll leave you to decide what that means). The facilities there are quite surprising, they include on-site shop, showers - toilets - washroom, ironing facilities, washing up facilites, outdoor swimming pool, regular buses into town etc. If I remember rightly for campers the nightly rate was about £4 per night which is very reasonable, however they do offer static caravans also but I'm not sure how much they cost and it would vary depending on the time of year.
All in all I think that Tregustick is a good alternative to the 18-30 campsites like Smugglers with good amenities and friendly owners. Anyone with a fear of big Alsatians may want to think twice though. Its located approximately 4 miles out of Newquay but if you have a car thats not a problem, however make sure you dont miss the last bus back other wise you will be left walking up and almighty hill and down dark lanes to get back in to bed!
Well worth looking in to

Magic coves campsite ran by Stan Marshall is excellent!!! We happened apon it one summer and then went back three more years in a row. Stan is amazingly nice, and everywere else we tried told us to P*ss off because we were 16. Its 300 yards from a SUPERB beach (ok waves) 5 mins from Watergate bay, 10 mins from town center.
