Camping 2007 info

Hiya,
we're planning to camp for the RipCurl week 6th - 12th August.
So i decided to checkout a few campsites:

Smugglers Haven - www.smugglershaven.co.uk
£7.80 per person, per night!!! The Light brigade made less ridiculous charges.

Trevelgue - www.trevelgue.co.uk
£7.15 per person, per night!!! At least Dick Turpin wore a mask.

Trekenning - www.trekenning.co.uk
£15 per 2 adults, per night! They charge like a Rhino with a bum full of dynamite.

Trencreek - www.trencreekholidaypark.co.uk
£7 per person, per night. £3.50 per night for elecs. Gordon Brown must be so proud.

Rosecliston - http://www.3mc.co.uk/rosecliston/main_menu.asp
£6.50 per person, per night. This is the cheapest so far, but not by much.

So what shall we do? Best guess is we'll try to find a cheapo campsite, or a friendly farmer, jesus all we need is a field, we're all driving Land Rovers so can get anywhere we like.
We want to be on a bus route, or within staggering distance of the town center.
If anyone knows any cheap sites, post it up please. Meanwhile we'll keep looking.

Laters

Baz

Last year I saw a few people set there tents up next to their cars in the car parks. But obviously you have to put them up late and take them down early so you don't get caught.

The way forward is to get a cheap camper can park where ever you want then provided you don't attract attention to yourself i.e camp fires, get p*****d and etc

Um, not a good idea as local constabulary will move you on from most laybys or carparks especially around Newquay & there not polite either I won't go into detail but its very, very hot on their list down there due to events from many years ago ruining it for the rest. There are some camper nuts on here who may be able to pass on advice where to stop etc. There are some places but people are generally already there for the season by then so its pot luck.

Just a word to the wise.

Only reason I mention it AW is that I have got a few mates that know a couple of places but they are quite a guarded secret. He has told me that the policy tend to leave them alone as they are tucked out of the way and dont make a nuisance of them selves. But suppose it is what you know and who you know

Precisely. I'm more than aware of most of these places but during the season they get rarer or taken, especially ones where you don't need to set up late & leave early. Just advising BUNKER that its not as easy as it seems.

Thanks for your advice.
I suppose we could live without a campfire (we use old wheel rims that we've welded legs onto), but couldn't live without a bbq to cook the shark steaks on lol

Our problem with commercial campsites is that we don't wanna annoy anyone, so a remote farmers field would be perfect. We're certainly not planning to take pot luck, wanna book something.

We bawked at the price though, couple of years ago we were perched on a mountainside at Kyle Canyon Nevada, with showers, laundry etc, we were allowed fires too all for $1.60 (about 90p) per tent per night - loved it - didn't take the land rovers tho lol

Maybe i'll buy a few acres near Newquay and make a killin renting pitches at £3 pp per night - dreams - guess we might even have to bite the bullit and go to Rosecliston (retch) i think maybe other campers would laugh at our tents tho
