19 year olds camping

Since it looks like its at the height of fashion to put how old you are in the title I thought I’d join in!!

We’ve only been to newquay the once and loved it, stayed in base surf lodge.
However we’d like to try the camping experience now, do we need to pre book a campsite, or is it just a matter of turning up there and pitching up?
- considering tis bank holiday this weekend! So I’m guessing it will be busy right?
Any suggestions as to where to stay, e.g one not too expensive and near to one of the beeches?
