Forums Slow

Hi Ivan,

Is something wrong with the forums as I'm finding they're taking like 20 secs after clicking the link to respond and load.

I am working on the new version of the site which should (and will) be much faster. I am aware that things slow down, and there could be number of reasons for this - some of which are external and beyond me.

But there are many things I can do. Front page of the site is too big and it is around 70-80k. Compare this to Yahoo which is half that. Furthermore, all those adds are served from different locations around the world, and are very slow themselves. Many things on there are sending requests to the database, which takes some time to respond. Links pages are taxing server resources since there is a problem there which locks Google bot in a loop constantly sending requests to the server. Perhaps I should close Links pages for now until new and better version is in place. Page is only displayed once all the elements have been assembled and in place (apart from logo at the top), so this takes some time.

New version of forum will look the same, but will feature some additions, like spell checking option, improved functionality etc. Also, new forum will use ajax () which will interpret all formatting correctly while switching without refreshing the page - meaning faster forum!

I am waiting for site to go into its annual winter hibernation mode in order to implement changes - just in case something goes wrong, which usually happens .

OK thx.

Personally I like the front page with all the photos - not a problem on ADSL.

However, I have a link (favourite) direct to the forum page and its that that's been slow.

Much faster today though - last night I was clicking and then my connection was dead for like 20 secs waiting for a response before the server finally served and sent the page.
