Car insurance took me for a ride

I have just received an annual car insurance reminder from Direct Line to let me know that I do not have to do nothing - my car insurance policy will be renewed automatically at the end of current period.

Of course, there seem to be some increase in policy cost from last year. New price will therefore be £672.98, which includes monhly direct debit interest charge.

Out of interest, I went to Direct Line site, and entered all my details. Price returned was £470.00!?! This is for same policy terms, and includes interest for monthly payments - which currently stand at 0% APR!!!). This also includes a discount of 10% discount if you buy online.

This is more than £200 saving!

So, I phoned them up, cancelled my renewal, and arranged for a new policy online. I will be doing this every year from now on, as I feel I have been taken for a ride somewhat by sitting idle and enjoying the convenience of an automatic annual policy renewal. My a**!

jeez - how cheeky! nice one for being inquisitive and checking out the quotes online. 'spose they depend on people being lazy and going for the quick, easy option of letting the company do all the work. i'll keep this in mind next time i'm renewing insurance on my car - thanks for the tip off dude!

Its alot because your still a teenager, and they class young drivers as high risk.Dont worry, when you get to my age,it will be loads cheaper.

Lol yeah! I am 35, but remember some astronomical quotes in my teenage years. Now, my insurance is still too much - I either drive expensive car or live in a highest risk area . It is the last one....

Oh, and on the subject of girls only car insurers, I think it is ok to reward safer drivers. But my local swimming pool has ladies only night on thursdays, which I am not so sure about. It just happens to take place on a day I want to go swimming the most (thursday) . They used to hold these evenings on mondays, but mondays used to be my fav days to go swimming as well - how strange. Is it me, or are they trying to destroy me?

p.s. I am glad there are no 'men only' evenings, would feel uncomfortable on those....

Question car/breakdown cover

I agree with the car insurance tricks. i recently had a renewal thru for breadown cover. It was 27 quid last when joined and this year it's 35 quid and that includes a 10% no callout discount. best of it this is from "direct line".

So i searched around on google and found exactly the same cover with green flag for 29.40.

Green flag are owned or in partnership with direct line.

Go figure!!!!!!?????!!!!
