Smile Newcomer

Hi,

I went surfing for the first time last weekend in Newquay. I had a surfing lesson with Escape and really enjoyed it, so much so that we're coming back next weekend and for the bank holiday. I live in Berkshire so Newquay is a long drive. Do you know of anywhere closer I could learn and what my next moves should be? Do you think its worth buying any equipment or carry on hiring?

Thanks,
Pinky

Hi there Pinky, welcome to Surf Newquay.

Well done for getting the surfing bug. As for your questions, the distance is always going to be long drive to get to surf driving from Berkshire, but it will always be worth it.I always say buy equipment rather than hiring.

The best two surf shops in Newquay are Tunnel Vision and Sunset Surf shop.As for the best board to buy for yourself,it all depends on your height, weight and experience you have.

Andy from Tunnel Vision and Nick from Sunset Surf shop will help you buy whats best for you,and not just sell you just anything.

Thanks - we're going to be coming down to Newquay next weekend for the Boardmasters comp so I'll take a look at the shops then.

We went to Sailors last weekend and loved it. Is there anywhere else worth checking out?

Gawd, your asking the wrong person now.I dont bother with the Newquay night life,as it is full of pissed up idiots. The Red Lion used to be my old haunt, but its more of a food pub now.My evenings now down in Newquay is either, having a drink in ET's secret local.Or spending a relaxing evening at Hipps house.

PINKY

WELCOME

STORMY with some sound advice there big time.

I've known Andy many years as STORMY has with the other chap for many years too. TUNNEL VISION is the UK's largets custom board maker & seller currently & he covers everything from trick boards, to mini-mals to big guns. Both shops are what a surf shop should be, relaxed, not pushy & there not there to take your money for the sake of it. Plus the after sales is excellent.

As for nightlife use the search option on the site as loads of people ask each year & all come back with different opinions, I hate clubs too unfortunately as most current or ex doorman do. But Sailors has quite a good rep & as far as I'm aware there isn't as much trouble there as some places ... though now I've said that

Guys outweigh girls though in the town as many on here will tell you & the beach parties that use to happen on places like TOWAN & FISTRAL are now being clamped down on.

Maybe STORMY & I might see you over the bank holiday as we both return around then
