SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT UPTON TOWANS BAECH NEAR HAYLE CLAIMED THE LIFE OF A 3 YEAR OLD GIRL

A tragic accident to occure ,she and a boy were digging a pit in the sand,some 5 foot deep,the boy was released quikley but the girl was not so lucky,she was pronounced dead at 5 50pm after being air lifted to hospital.The girl was on holiday with her family from sussex.

portreath coastgaurds fire and police and a helicopter from RNAS coldrose were at the scene

such a tradic accident...........R.I.P

Hey Ben_paul,

Thanks for the post. I join you in sorrow, and I hope that we can all learn a lesson from this accident with better awareness of dangers, from parents and their children to lifeguards and all beach goers. Perhaps existing beach signs could include warning of dangers associated with deep digging of sand and it's potential collapse.

Once again,its such a shame to hear about a tragic death.I was only talking to Hipps last week about people digging holes,while we walked past people on beach doing such things.It reminded me of that young lad stuck on the beach last year,in a hole as the tide was coming in.Luckly the Fire Brigade freed him.

People please be careful on the beach.If you have children keep an eye at what they are doing.The danger does not just come from the sea.And if you or your children dig a hole,please make sure you fill it back in before you leave.Just in case someone else falls into it.

Yeah...this is TRAGIC...such a waste...wot can u say wen sumthin like this happens..wot makes it all the more tragic is that it wos such an innocent thing to do...kids dig on the beaches..most natural thing in the world..mine do it...just hope that lessons can be learned...good idea about the warning signs...apart from that u've just got to be vigilant n wotch ur kids at all times...tragic...my heart goes out to the little girl and her family
