Angry Car Crashing Maniac!

just wanted to share with everyone my bad bad BAD experience this morning! I went to stay at my boyfriends last night and parked my car on the road outside like i always do. when i came down to drop him off at work this morning, someone had crashed into the drivers side door leaving a proper huge dent and a massive long white scratch!!!! there wasn't a note or phone number or anything and no-one had made any effort to find out whose car they'd crashed into! to say i was miffed is an understatement - i'm completely gutted and i'm really hoping my insurance company will pay up!
what kind of person crashes into someone elses car and does a runner?!
some kind of low-life.
i'm NOT happy.

(just wanted to vent my anger.....feeling much more cool now )

Sorry to hear that Starfish.

Your insurance company should pay up no problem but unfortunately its likely to count against your no claims. If you've got it protected it will just count as a "knock". If not, then it could cost you dearly as you will stand to lose your bonus (I hope it doesn't).

If you have protected no claims, watch out for your premium increasing next year as some companies do this following a claim - I'd shop around if that happens as you'll usually find a lower quote by doing so.

You could also see if you can save your insurance by claiming from the Motor Insurers Bureau although I don't know if you qualify as I don't know the rules.

Disregard last bit, looks as if you won't qualify as can't identify the vehicle.

cheers Al. i think i'll just get it repaired at a garage 'cos my thinking is the increase in insurance from losing the no claims bonus will be more than the cost to repair the damage.
thanks for the advice though, much appreciated

How bad is the dent, is there any damage to surrounding panels, trim, mirrors - do you have a pic?

Also, shop around, there are some very good but cheap backstreet bodyshops out there (albeit you have to be a little bit careful who you go to - safer when not structural though).

Best to ask around through friends and family who have or have owned older cars and also anyone in your area who owns an old beetle or V Dub or similar as those latter people are unlikely to go main dealer.

Main dealer will cost you a fortune but hunt around and you'll probably find a backstreet body shop who'll do you a good repair for a fraction of the cost.

the dent's pretty bad but definetely fixable. no damage to the mirror or surround but the window doesn't go down more than two inches. car is still driveable though, door locks as well.if you can tell me how to load a pic on here i'll put one on for you to see
i'm gonna have a shop around the local bodywork garages tomorrow and get some quotes to see which is the cheapest. there's some small scratches elsewhere on the car as well (ah-hmm... ) which i'll include in the cost.
annoying though!!!

Easiest way to put a picture up is through this site and its free:

http://www.imageshack.us/

Click browse to navigate to where it is on your pc then upload.

When uploaded you'll get the choice of various links, copy the 1st Thumbnail one for forums, go to internet Explorere at the top, click file > new > window to get a duplicate window, come to this forum and paste it into a post on here - preview it before closing the imageshack page (as you can't refind it so will have to upload again if link doesn't work and you closed that page).

Ouch!

Trouble is all people are bothered about is their own no claims bonus these days as insurance so expensive - don't give a damn about honesty or anyone else.

Assuming locks and hinges OK it looks like it needs a new door skin and possibly plastic trim - can't see them pulling that one out (although I could be wrong).

From top picture just looks like a car impact but from the bottom, I wonder if it was a lorry / box van - looking at the narrow and deep dint towards the top of the door - looks a bit like the corner of a large vehicle has gone in there and cars don't have thin vertical corners.

Might explain why you didn't hear it as wouldn't take much speed for a lorry to do that.

Guessing at £150 back street, a lot more at a dealer.

Ask around and you'll probably find someone good and cheap.

Good luck with it.

Does the road you were in have a council or Police CCTV system ???

If so contact the relvant body to see if they saw anything & get the vehicles VRM. Failing that then see if any of the neighbours have private CCTV covering the front gardens / parked car / front door.

Looks like mostly what is known as skin damage which isn't as bad as you think. my MR2 years ago had a similar accident. A company like DENTMASTER would be able to pull those or you could go by local breaker for a new door which will probably be the cheapest option with a quick respray. Looks like a civic or peugot by the photos so aim for a Peugot / civic specialist breakers.

nah, the road doesn't have CCTV or anything - just a housing estate road. i'll have an ask around to see if anyone saw anything and i was thinking of putting a notice up asking as well.
the car's a peugeot 206...went to a few bodywork garages today to get some quotes and most of them said it would need a new door - costing around £200. must be 'cos i'm pretty

Not being funny but try EBAY for parts like a door or wing mirrors. My friends cavalier went banger racing a few months back & he got an electric replacement mirror for a £10 plus a £5 P&P Nowhere near what he'd been quoted.
