Wetsuit suggestions anyone?

Hi people

As I found myself getting a bit cold yesterday afternoon in at Perranporth, I've decided that it's about time I got meself a winter suit.

Any suggestions people? Any good deals in any of the Newquay shops at the moment anyone know, because I'm on a bit of a tight budget at the moment - I'll aim at getting myself something decent for next winter.

Any suits worth avoiding? I know I'm not going to get anything that good, but hopefully not something thats going to fall apart before the end of this winter

ASAP if possible, I'm planning to go in tomorrow afternoon again, so I'm looking to try to get something sorted in the morning

Cheers

They have excellent second hand Winter wetsuits in the Boardwalk surf shop.I bought a really good Winter wetsuit there 3 weeks ago for only £40.

I'll have a trawl round the shops up this end of town first thing in the morning - hadn't thought about maybe a s/hand suit, could be a good option for now

I've always used Sola suits mate, lovely and warm. They do a good thermal rash vest with built in hood too. Both well priced.

I've never surfed in winter but I used to windsurf and steamers were always the best suits then.

The difference between a steamer and a normal suit for anyone that doesn't know is a tighter fitting neck seal, usually flexible rubber and wrist and ankle straps - the purpose of these is to stop cold water getting flushed through your suit everytime you fall off thus keeping you warmer as you retain the thin warmed water layer in your suit even through falls / waves.

I guess the winter surfers on here will be able to give you better advice than me on individual suits for surfing but the suggestion above of 5/3 sounds good.

Also, never overlook dry gloves - excellent I used to use these - like a dry suit for you hands and really cheap, good wet suit boots (surfing specific) and also a neoprene balaclava as most of the heat is lost through the head.

Hey there mate,
Used to work in Anns Cottage surf shop kittin out people with suits-
We used to get really positve coomets from O'neil suits(they fit really well) Pshyco 2 is a fantastic suit, seam welded, firewall, back-up system (this is a must) really flexible but it is about £250

I couldnt afford the o'neil and amazingly the gul Ntro suit fitted me better which i was gutted about BUT never the less it is still a decent suit, very pleased with it. Its got an over the head back up system which is quite tight around the neck, i believe they might have changed it this year, to something more like the o'neil one (mine had to be sent back- they stitched it wrong and it almost strangle me)

SNUGG do some amazing suits i do beileve- dont know too much about them, as we didnt sell the in the shop. They also do Cutom made suits

My summer suit is an XCELL suit which is fantastic- will defo be buying another suit- maybe even a winter one when my GUL one dies lol.

loads of other makes to consider, Billabong do some lovely suits but- lol sounds funny, i thought they were REALLY heavy.Rip curl also have some nice suits. Also suits with Hoods built in- depends on how cold you get and where your surfing.

If you can avoid Basic winter suits, at cheap prices- as flexibility is shockin (i had one for ages ) Maybe look out for last season winter suits at bargain prices(usually minimal diferances)

Another thing to consider is a o'neil thermal rash vest, or any thermal rash vest (o'neil is from experience, i have one- i sold loads- and ppl would come back in the shop chuffed with the vest and said it made alot of differance) i love mine and even used it in the summer underneath my shortie for a bit of protection.

Defo get boots, and some decent gloves- again o'neil seemed to be a decent fit.

Hope this helps

I tried in once on my Windsurfer at my local lake in March but boy was it bl**dy freezing!

I had a 4mm Wet suit at the time and dry gloves.

To be honest my body wasn't really cold, although flushes of cold water up the suit were unpleasant but the worst thing for me was my head.

Everytime I fell in the shock of hitting the cold water on my head was so great that I got an instant headache that lasted for a minute or two, guess I need a neoprene balaclava.

This time of year wint too bad- last year around feb/march time it was soooo damn cold.

I sufffer too from ice cream headaches- you then try and avoid duck-diving to avoid putting your head underwater and end up gettting hammered lol.

i have never used a Tw*t cap, but if it gets real cold- i might have to think about it

STORMY !!!

How could you be so crass ...

Northern lasses hard - in general I mean ??? I can hear them baying for your blood as I type this post with a statement like that.

Northern lasses are mostly very soft and feminine. They are so much better lookin in general than their 'southern' counterparts believe me. This I believe is due to the fact that they take much better care of themselves and pay far more attention to their presentation and looks especially when their going out. This I have also found generally is still the case in the maturer women.

Going out around Hanley, Bolton & Leeds was such a treat for me when I have done as based on the numbers there was more good looking women around than a night in the shitehole of London.

Its just such a dam shame when they open their mouths and speak though ... I guess you can't have everything.

( Heh, heh, heh, heh )
