Arrow Any friendly Newquay Locals?

Hi everyone, I've finally decided to go for broke, pack a few things and turn up towards the end of this week. After calling about numerous jobs in Newquay over the weekend, I've found that due to employers requiring interviews, most of them have said that the best thing to do is just turn up and find somewhere to stay. I've got enough money to last a few weeks. Hopefully this will give me enough time to bag myself a job. Is there anyone there who would mind meeting me for a beer and a chat one day or night when I get down to make the whole experience a little less daunting? To be honest I'm kinda shitting myself cause I've never just got up and gone before. All i'm gonna take down is my surfboard (obviously) and a few essentials. I've lived away from the South West for over a year now and i've been itching to get back down ever since. Having recently found out that I wont have a job for much longer, I see it as an ideal oppertunity to get back in the surf, doing what I love. Cheers everyone, Paul Mansell, Ripley, Derbyshire.

goodluck psurf05,
defently go for it, you wont regret it. sounds like the ideal time to set up home in the south west anything worth doing is always hard so dont let that put you off.

Hey bud, I did the same thing about two years ago, Left my office job in London in search for surf and a life that didn't revolved around communting, working and paying the bills (barely making ends meet). It was easily the best thing I've ever done, wasn't easy I worked in McDonalds the first winter I was down but even that was better than what I had left behind. Best bets to find a cheap lodge who'll do you a good weekly rate then check out the adverts in the "chocbox" window, there are always rooms to rent in shared houses that are pretty reasonable, then find a job thats gonna pay you enough to get by and allow you to surf as much as you can. the hardest bit is choosing to do it, so it's easy from here.

Ripley eh? You poor guy The Red Lion in newquay has better views than the one in Ripley, i.e. 'The bay' and not 'the chavs'. Though you probably know that if you're from the southwest? What tempted you up north, if you dont mind me asking, ?

Can't wait to get down now, I just wanna get it done so I can stop worrying about doing it (that make sense?). I moved back up north cause I left the Navy and thought i'd spend some time with my family. I ended up getting a job and not coming back down. You're right about Ripley though, the Red Lion is terrible, falling to pieces and as boring as most of the other Wetherspoons across the country.

There's the University surfing championships this weekend, hope there is somewhere to stay. Say's on A1 surf they're expecting about 1500 students! I think I best ring up before to check there is somewhere to stay.

Hi Batesy Boarder, I could use a surf buddy actually, I wont know anyone down there so it'd be good if you wanna meet up for a beer or something? I've put my notice in today but i've managed to get work to let me finish up on Friday so all being well i'll be down Saturday. Thanks to everyone for the good luck messages and positive responses, it's helped to convince me to actually go through with it. No turning back now.
