Starting a business in Newquay

Hi, Ive been to newquay twice now and im coming again this summer to surf and love it to bits as im sure you guys all do too. I get the impression jobs and accomodation are very hard to come by in newquay. Ive been thinking of opening a shop, does anyone know how the retail trade does in town, if shops tend to quickly close down or if the rents are expensive?
There dont appear to be many specialist shops and stereos/tvs/cd/dvds all seem pretty thin on the ground when it comes to places to buy them from. Any thoughts? I would essspecially like to near from anyone who has now or previously had a shop/business in newquay.

The thing with shops in Newquay is that most have an 'ingoing' fee. This is on top of your yearly rent, and can range from about £15,000 to over £45,000. This is because sooo many people want to start businesses and run shops in Newquay that there has to be some sort of safeguard against idiots and hundreds of failing businesses. Obviously you would get it back when you sold on the lease because you would charge your own 'ingoing' fee.

Retail shop premises, at the moment at least, are very thin on the ground.

The other thing is that there are generally a lot of restrictions on some premises, ie the landlord or freeholder can state that they don't want hot food to be sold from there, or beach goods, or clothes, or cds.

I don't want to put you off at all, if you can find a niche in the market and have the funds and the head for it then good luck! i'm sorry if I sounded at all patronising, I don't know whether you have any experience in this sort of thing.

Best wishes.
