Life's no beach if you're party animal
From the Newquay Voice Newpaper.
So if your comming down to Newquay thinking there are going to be beach parties, forget it.
POLICE are seeking new powers to end Newquay’s seasonal problem of rowdy revellers gathering on beaches.
Dispersal orders have been applied for to cover Fistral, Great Western and Towan beaches.
The move has come about after an order for Towan Beach last summer was so successful that it merely shifted the revellers from one beach to another.
Fistral faced the full brunt of hundreds of partygoers descending on the beach.
Problems included wood being ripped off buildings to fuel fires and windows being smashed. Towan had been a trouble spot at the height of the summer over the past four years. Incidents included vandalism, fights breaking out, drug dealing and illegal alcohol sales.
The problem became so severe that residents living nearby formed Newquay Action Group. The group’s lobbying made Restormel Borough Council and the police sit up and addrress the issue.
The dispersal orders, if granted, will give officers the authority to arrest those caught misbehaving if they refuse to leave.
It will also allow police to return anyone under 16-years-old to their home if they were found unsupervised after 9pm.
Sergeant Aaron Bevan, neighbourhood team sergeant, who is working to get the dispersal orders introduced, said: "The seeking of the dispersal orders is at its early stages.
"I’ve obtained a problem profile from one of our analysts and it tends to support our view the Towan Beach dispersal order has been a success dealing with anti-social behaviour of large groups of people congregating on the beach into the early hours.
"Such activity causes a major concern for personal safety, alcohol, drug abuse and vandalism to property.
"From the analysts report the problem dispersed to Fistral Beach last year and to a lesser extent Great Western Beach.
"I’m currently liasing with our partners gathering evidence to put before the superintendent and Restormel Borough Council with a view to granting dispersal orders for the three beaches."
The dispersal orders, which can be granted under the Anti-social Behaviour Act 2003, are earmarked to run at the three beaches between April 26 and May 9 and from June 29 and September 3.

not such a bad thing in my book if it keeps all the people who come to newquay just to get pissed away from the beaches and stops vandalisum. im sure it wont apply to any chilled out people (us ) who just want to chill out on the beach at night with a bbq and a few beers.

i'm all for having a quiet few beers and a bbq on the beach on an evening but riotous beach`parties are a nuisance. they cause so much disruption to other people as well as the beach itself. hopefully the crack down will work and the quiet few with bbq's can relax as normal

I've worked disperal orders & providing they have the man power to back it up it will work well. Good news I think too ...
Can't understand why they didn't accept my snipers with nightvision scopes idea though ...

You cant do it ET,because you would be littering the beach with dead bodies. And the council cant afford to clean up the bodies off the beach every morning.
I would rather pray to the wave God to produce a huge wave and sweep them all out into the sea.

this sounds like a good idea to me, as long as the police don't abuse it - ie harrassing people.
they did a similar thing in pacific beach, california while i was living there. the papers spun it as ending all the fun, but in reality, it stopped a lot of violence, and theft by keep certain people away.
its a sad thing when you can't trust your own people to behave.... hope it works out.

Really hope everybody isnt classed as trouble, know its a hassle weeding out the kn*bs but its important that happens and that the beaches arent just totally cleared.Same as anything i suppose, the kn*bs can spoil it for all in more ways than one, either by causing trouble or by getting the beaches cleared of all....good and bad
