Camper security - are window bars like this overkill?

I plan on surfing around the beaches in France, Spain, Portugal and
Morocco in a VW campervan. Trip span should be about 6-8 months. I
have been told by some to prepare for a
theft occurrence. Other than that, I have repeatedly read about the
theft experiences of many others.

I came across this website that had what I feel is a very innovative
theft protection system. .

I will be traveling with a substantial amount of expensive surfing
gear. I know I am not the first person to travel in a campervan with
expensive gear and I am aware that there is no 100% full proof
protection (alas even with this method it appears it is not possible
to place the bars over
the front windshield, or is it?), but is this type of protection
overkill (i.e am I looking at a manifestation of my @n@l
retentiveness? Again, I got the idea for this from a wonderful
website www.vwvagabonds.com, it is more than worth a look. BTW, I
have written several posts to this forum and I am amazed at the
wonderful responses that I have received. Thank you so much for
taking time from your day to help me figure my trip out (or anyone
else who will search this information out in the future).

Also, any advice on the door locks that are available on the market
would also be greatly appreicated.

Thanks in advance,

Aaron

forgive me if i sound rude buts whats the point of those. yeah it may stop someone getting things out the window. but they would just pop the 1/4 light and open the door.

we were going to put some deadlocks on my bros mini but didnt as they looked a bit crap and basic, didnt want to have to cut the car around.
