safety in numbers

Hi Guys

I dont know if its just me or iam going crazy. I have for the past couple of years always surfed on my own with other surfers yes but my other friends cannot see the attraction of pulling on a wetsuit and riding waves especially when it a tad chilly.

Its not much fun i tell you you cant have a laugh and have a pint afterwards or sahre experiences or anything and besides if you had friends to go with they would look out for you if you had any problems. Anybody in the same posistion as me.

cheers christoff

Hello mate,

Welcome back!

You need to get some friends then that like to surf

So you have two groups of mates, those that surf and those that don't.

Yes, I have a similar problem. I learnt to surf with friends from university one Easter holiday while we all lived in Derby so it was quite easy to arrange trips away as we were all in one place. Since then, I have moved down to Hemel Hempstead and it is a lot harder to organise everyone. My parents live just outside Newquay so I go when I visit them but as I dont live down there I have no friends, and they arent always keen to stand and watch while I splash about!!

You do miss the cameradery of surfing with mates and there is always the thought of safety in the back of my mind as I am on my own. There is always the 'what if?'

I always need someone to zip up my wetsuit for aswell as I cant reach to the top properly and I always end up scurrying around to find some nice peron that can do it for me. The older ladies always oblige!! I usually need help taking the thing off as my arms are that tired from paddling so much!! If I was a better surfer I would be able to do it!!

i only have one "friend" that surfs but since we're at different uni's it's a bit tricky to meet up for a surf. what i did was just have a look at people who tended to use my local break as well as me and then after a few times of seeing them there same time as me i just struck up a convo...and now i have my own local crew so to speak just start talking to people and you'l soon hook up with a group

I was learning to surf this summer and i was in a group of 14, i have always wanted to surf and i was very very keen to do so everyone else would rather go to town leaving a few of us going to the beach to make the most of the cornish air. Me and a few people woulkd go out and surf but most of them gave up, I didnt find it as much fun on my own at all and it was a bit freaky lol but still a very good laugh lol
