is there much to do in Newquay without having to get out an umberella?

Not a huge amount. sea life centre, shopping. if you have a car you could pop to eden etc other than that not really. Thats the trouble we always have booking somewhere to stay when u dont know what the weather will be like.
At least you can still surf in the rain, less people about too lol

I remember a few years back I had one of those light summer jacket type things that was capable of adapting so it could cover yourself & equipment if out in the field - yep ex-military thing.

On this particular day in June I had been surfing on Fistral since sun up (glorious day ) & it was about 11am & conditions had dropped to almost flat. So returning to the beach I decided to have some chill time reading when I heard/saw a storm coming in from the good ole Atlantic.

Despite the time of year there were a few families on holiday so the beach whilst not over crowded it was busy. So as the first spots of rain come down I get my jacket out, put it on, cover myself & my
backpack & continue reading - then the heavens opened !

It was soooooooo funny watching these people pulling up windbreaks & gathering their stuff & kids before running either to Pentire or Fistral Blu - especially despite the lightening, downpour & thunder blue clear skies could be seen coming from out to sea

Twenty minutes later you would have had no idea of the passing storm & I spent the next few hours reading & sunbathing on an empty Fistral

So if it rains fella just go surfing !!!

Newquay in the rain is cool as the water is not full of those yellow boards.

I LOVE being in the sea in the rain.

However...

Even a hint of lightning, you can find me hiding in the nearest cave/car/buried in the sand... whatever. Just don't try and come near me unless its to tell me that its over!!!

The days when I could stand duck-diving in cold water with no ice cream headache & you'd come back on the beach with ice in your hair

Sweet

The rain does not matter one bit if you're surfing. In fact, as some have already said, it's BETTER cuz less people in the water Separates the real surfers from the fair-weather wimps
