New idea for Cornwall-wide Forum. Your input needed.

Hi all,

I was thinking of starting new forum in a 'SurfNewquay' vain, but expanding it to the whole county of Cornwall. Why?

Well, I fell in love with Cornwall from the first time 'this landlocked guy' from former Yugoslavia went there in 1996 and tried surfing for the first time. I loved the sea, landscape, people, food, vibe etc ever since. This experience has sliced my soul in three equal parts: one third belongs to my home town of Novi Sad, one to Cornwall and final third is firmly grounded in Hawaii.

I started SurfNewquay.co.uk site in 1996 after my first visit as I wanted to share photos I have taken with the whole world. So I designed a very basic site with some info on Newquay and images I have taken. And from this, site grew to what it is today ever since. I enjoyed whole experience a great deal, but now feel little limited with covering just Newquay and surfing, as there is much more to Cornwall than these two that I love so much.

I want SurfNewquay to remain just that, mainly surfing info oriented site with a bits of other useful information. So rather than change anything in here, I am thinking of starting 'sister' site. To this end I have registered recently a domain name 'CornwallX (both .co.uk and .com) which stands for Cornwall Explorer. I would like to build it into a premier community for all those who like Cornwall just like I do - and I am sure you do as well.

Forum would cover wide topics such as Walks, Accommodation, Beaches, Real Estate, and Places of Interest etc. I would like your input on possible other topics, anything you think would be suitable. Also, I'd like to hear from you what do you think on this whole idea. Any input or suggestions are welcome.

In a meantime, I'll rustle something up this weekend - a starting point and you'll be able to see it at www.cornwallx.com, but not just yet. I need to decide on a forum platform first.

Like the idea.

But do you think it would be possible to also include Devon matters? I'm being a bit selfish as I'm looking to move there very soon and it would be cool to know whats going on there also

I would be more than happy to contribute ideas, articles etc

Sounds cool fella & a dam good idea

I know you've bought the domain but you could have called it Kernow-Whythrer which is Cornwall explorer in Cornish!
(There could be some marks or slashes missing there!)

On the forum you could have a section for the yearly major events in Cornwall like the Culdrose Airshow, Boardmasters, RTTS & smaller sections within that section splitting Cornwall into regionalism & allowing people to post more local events.

Ivan
thought i'd give you something to use for your site.

Moushole
pronounced mowzell
This is a small harbour town 2 miles from Penzance and 9 miles from Lands End.
1st visit last week and was blown away this idillic little cornish fishing village is a pole apart from the hustle and bustle of Newquay. the small harbour has 2 small beaches and is an excellent playground for the kids, with crabbing at low tide and jumping off the harbour wall at high tide.
the village remains untouched and is steeped in history like the Spanish invasion and burning down of all but a handfull of the buildings which still remain today. the village boasts some superb restaraunts all using locally caught seafood to dozens of artist studios who have took haven here due to the superb scenery and light. the chippy needs to be visited the locally caught fish is the reason there is a queue every night.
there is a mixture of holiday let cottages and privatley owned homes so the village still has a community feel about it.
6 miles down the A30 towards Lands end is Porthcurno a stunning beach watch out for the shore breaks a couple of hours either side of high tide they can be overpowering don't let your children go there unsupervied. after this there was some nice waves for bodyboarding on with a nice break to the left of the beach towards Fragle rock (thats what the lifeguard called it) there was a slight rip but not too strong. i imagine this rip can be worse, not a beach for boards from what i saw but it may be different with the right conditions .
Mousehole it's not a place for living it up there is only one pub (i think) but is a great safe and beautiful retreat and is a reminder of what the real Cornwall is all about. there are honesty box's for the parking and stuff like shells and plants around the village this shows how quaint and relaxed this place is.
the one and only niggle i had was the parking is limited and you have only got the harbour to squeeze the cars on. reversing down it is an experience to test the skills and nerves

You should see the queue to this place on New Years Eve

Just before the year 2000 hit I remember seeing a queue of traffic all heading for the one pub !!! Haven't been around in subsequent years at this time of year but friends tell me its still madness !!!
