Life is so cruel

Well guys and girls, some of you may already have read some of my posts on here about me planning on starting a new life in Devon.

Alas, since that plan my wife and I have been hit with a bolt out of the blue. Literally a few weeks after we'd decided on making the move.

Don't want to say too much right now, but I've had a bit of a very very scary health scare, which may put all my plans and dreams straight outta the window

Got loads more hospital appts to attend, where I'll be able to discuss with the Dr's my plans, hopes, dreams... and nightmares

In the mean time, apologies for not being on here much these last few days.

Please wish me luck. If you're religious say a little prayer. If you're a surfer cut some up for me. In the mean time I'm gonna try keep my chin up

Hey Alps,

I can only imagine what you are going through right now. It is very brave from you to post and share with us about your current scare. Indeed, without knowing more than what you've written above, I wish you all the best and hope sincerely that it is only a scare, nothing less and nothing more. You must stay brave (seems like you are ) and keep those Devon plans going.

Please let us know how things progress. In a meantime, I and my family will think of you and pray for you.

Thanks guys for all your support.

Since this bomb shell of news I've not done much other than think about the illness.

But now that the news has sunk in some-what, I'm beginning to ressurect my dreams again

But right now, they are still thoughts in my head. Have loads more tests to be done but am hoping for more positive results.

Will keep you all updated

The south west as STORMY has said could be good for the health indeed dude.

The do say where the granite rock starts, granite emits (not emmits ) the natural radiation called RADON.

Radon
(pronounced /ˈreɪdɒn/) is the chemical element that has the symbol Rnatomic number 86. Radon is a colorless, naturally occurring, radioactivenoble gas that is formed from the decay of radium. It is one of the heaviest substances that are gases under normal conditions and is considered to be a health hazard. The most stable isotope, 222Rn, has a half-life of 3.8 days and is used in radiotherapy. While having been less studied by chemists due to its radioactivity, there are a few known compounds of this generally unreactive element.

and
It has been claimed that exposure to radon gas mitigates auto-immune diseases such as arthritis As a result, in the late 20th century and early 21st century, some "health mines" were established in Basin, Montana which attracted people seeking relief from health problems such as arthritis through limited exposure to radioactive mine water and radon. The practice was controversial because of the "well-documented ill effects of high-dose radiation on the body."
Radioactive water baths have been applied since 1906 in Jáchymov, Czech Republic, but even before radon discovery they were used in Bad Gastein, Austria. Radium-rich springs are also used in traditional Japanese onsen in Misasa, Tottori prefecture. Drinking therapy is applied in Bad Brambach, Germany. Inhalation therapy is carried out in Gasteiner-Heilstollen, Austria, in Kowary, Poland and in Boulder, Montana, United States. In the United States and Europe there are several "radon spas," where people sit for minutes or hours in a high-radon atmosphere in the belief that low doses of radiation will invigorate or energize them.
In addition to personal testimonies of arthritis relief and other benefits, there is some scientific evidence for this belief, known as hormesis. However, the general scientific community finds it unsubstantiated. There is no known biological mechanism by which such an effect could occur. In addition, it conflicts with the internationally recognized standard that there is no safe threshold for radiation exposure and that exposure should be limited to that "as low as reasonably achievable" (ALARA).
The radon gas which is used as a cancer treatment in medicine is obtained from the decay of a radium chloride source. In the past, radium and radon have both been used for X-ray medical radiography, but they have fallen out of use as they are radiotoxic alpha radiation emitters which are expensive and have been replaced with iridium-192 and cobalt-60 since they are far better photon sources.

So on one foot they say its bad for you, which is why a lot of housing in the South West has more ventilation & needs it to stop accumulations. But there is also the good side. So if your illness is cancer related dude this could quite possibly be good for you - I consider it helped my Dad make the full recovery (fingers crossed) & his joints seem to free up when he visits.

So maybe Cornwall being all granite could be better for you than Devon
Here's a map as proof !!!

My thoughts are with you dude & your family

Thanks AW for that info and the best wishes.

Thankfully it's not cancer. But the diagnosis has hit me for 6. Once it's all straight in my head I'll let you all know more

In the mean time, I'm still looking at places in North Devon... and trying to decide if I should continue with my business plans
