Smile Learning to surf on the East Coast

I'm looking to try my hand at surfing, and whilst currently living in Peterborough am struggling to see how I can feasibly accomplish this?! Can anyone recommend any beaches in Norfolk, and in particular any surf schools? I know the surfs not supposed to be great, but will it be sufficient for a total beginner?!

hi, this is probably a little late and you may know about this already but the eastcoast has a pretty good site dedicated to surfing there

www.eastcoastsurf.co.uk

they have a forum also with a bunch of really nice friendly people on it, so maybe you could post your question there.

as to places i am assuming Cromer is one of the biggest places to surf on the east coast since they have a cam setup there.

hope that helps
Jonathan

Croyde Bay

Cheers for your input guys! Just returned from spending the Easter weekend down at Croyde Bay - booked up 3 days tuition with Surf South West. Despite every possible muscle in my body failing me, it was the best experience ever!! Didn't turn out to be the pro-surfer chick I'd hoped, but very keen to keep practising! Have been hearing things about East Runton - any comments? x

Hi
ive heard people mention East Runton before, maybe thats the place to be
Your a bit hard core getting in there this early in the year, bit cold for me. well done. I did a whole day surf lession / refresher thing last year and i spend the rest of the day and most of the next recovering. lol.
Ive just booked up the first trip of the year to newquay at the end of may.

Gold Coast Ocean Fest

Wore a 4 x 3mm, with boots and gloves and couldn't even feel the water! Weather stayed good for us - people were tackling the water in swimwear (albeit screaming!!) Looking at heading back to Croyde for the Gold Coast Ocean Fest mid-July, just wondering if the water may be a little overcrowded then though?! Looking at getting some of my own gear together, coz there aren't too many rental places down the East Coast. Only touched the softboards so far though - do you have any advice or know where I can go to get some regarding a 'beginners' board etc?!! Also, having difficulty getting my hands on any surf mags – nowhere seems to stock em… any recommendations? That you’re camper in the pic?

Its defently worth getting your own gear, i spend £60 on a wet suit a couple of years ago and its great for the few weekends i go a year. It would be worth you going to newquay for a days shopping cus there are prob 20 very good surf shops that wil realy help you find the right gear. they know there stuff. Ive never been to the north devon cost but im sure there must be surf shops around somewhere as well.
I would get yourself one of the 8ft bic boards for learning on, im going to buy one for my partner this year. there are some good deals on them for around £200 with a leash and bag and they are easy to sell when you move on to a better board.
July shouldnt be that bad, its the bank holidays that get really bad. We are starting to find some more off the beaten track kind of beaches now so you dont have to be crowded in.
Always worth looking at a map or going for a drive and seeing what u can find.
The tesco and w h smiths in the peotobough tesco extra normaly have them but they dont get many copies, if not borders / smiths in cambridge always have loads.
Yep my camper van, best thing for surfing cus you can bondel back in and have a cupa after the cold sea. very cheap camping as well.
