Any help or advice would be appreciated!!

Hey SCARY
Sod staying with the parents for a cheap holdiay, use your coastline baby - its cheaper too

Mind you, winter times then I'll agree the parents are the advantage !!!
As for training hun -
Extend the time you do stretching after a warm up & whilst cooling down. This will keep the joints, muscle & bones supple & strong & will help combat or avoid injuires or strains.
As STORMY has already said Cardiovascular is the best you can concentrate on but I would also recommend using some light to medium light weights for
strength training on your arms & shoulders. Normally it also recommended you do chest, upper & lower back too but things like swimming will help with this naturally anyway.I'm not talking becoming Swartszanigger here or bulking up with weight training as there is a large difference compared to strength training. After all there is nothing worse than a muscular woman
There is nothing worse, especially in heavier conditions or strong RIPS / currents than committing to a paddle out & then being completely knackered once you arrive in the line up.
NOT TO MENTION ITS ALSO VERY DANGEROUS TOO
I spent a year pretty much just weight training a whilst back & nearly bloody had a heart attack on first paddle out in a 4ft clean swell due to the fact it was breaking far out with loads of milk (white mushy salty shite) comming in to duck dive

Never made that mistake again as I was lacking in the cardio area.
Have a look online using a good search engine for tips on training if you don't have a fitness trainer at your gym as there is plenty out there.
Try this link which I just literally found to get you started
