Question Bought new board... What style is it? Tips for wave reading & turning...

Hi guys,

Been surfing on a custom 7'2" board for a few years (3-4 times p/year weekend warrior) and could handle running in but board was a pig to get out in messy stuff.

So bought a smaller board yesterday its 6'8" x 19' 1/2" x 2 5/8" and is a pipedream (hmmm just in time to go home only had 2 hours on it) but can't remember the style etc? Is it a fun board? any ideas? what type of tail etc. Cheers.

Next thing this board is oober cool even though Fistral was messy 2-3' yesterday afternoon. V. twitchy compared to my last board but it feels like it would just love to turn on those cleaner waves. Anyone got any webiste links to guides to reading waves? I always seem to miss read it even past the breakers and end up with the foamy tip rather than running infront (on this board a great way to sprain your ankle me thinks ).

The other thing is this board is a lot easier to get past the breakers but my duck diving sucks. I was following another surfer out and even though I went under the waves he didn't seem to get effected where as I was pulled back. Inbetween waves I was moving out at about the same speed as him...

Cheers for any answers to the above questions.

You got the location & thats my burger in the lower left of the picture...

I'm 5' 11", 11.5 stone and totally love that board

Cool so the style is a thruster, with a squash tail. Anything else? Whats the benefit of a squash tail?

Got any ideas as to what size waves the board is prob. best suited for? The old board would ride in virtually anything but if it was messy or over 4' it was a nooooo goooooo.....

Cheers (ohhh roll on October when I can get back down again)

I'm not very proficient myself but I had a session on Fistral with Nat Young in July.

He was recommending using the rips to get out through the surf rather than trying to punch out through the waves.

As you sound pretty good, I would image these hold no fear for you so might be the answer in the bigger messier waves.
