Tips 4 improvement appreciated!
Hey all! Iv surfed mals for odd week on newquay holidays( decided 2 learn 2 surf after GCSES!) Joined my surf club at uni but poor swell/ lack of time n money meant i only got out once. Decided to make a proper effort as i loved those weeks in newquay so much. Took a risk n bought a 2nd hand 6'8 shortie of ebay and travelled down 2 newquay this summer with a mate. Surfed every surfable day for 2 months, camped on beaches-mostly watergate n constantine and worked in a chippy in columb minor for money. Found it hard at first on the shortboard as really a beginner bt stuck in der n progressed. Can now catch even the tiny waves, can catch unbroken waves n ride em pretty far-like 30 yds or so. Gna try n surf up in north wales at uni and wondering where now to direct my efforts to improve? Sometimes i think im catching waves too late as you dont have time to pop before wave breaks and your board is heading vertically down into the water-can get up at this stage but harder. I also often just head straight, i can kinda lean turn abit but cant really do snappy sharp turns yet. I dont really pay much attention to direction wave is breaking, jus kinda head diagonally in that way by default it seems. I'd like to know how u start practising turns and perhaps hear if im right that wen u catch wave and board is vertical that thats too late... Oh yes and also id like to get out back bit faster as the sweet good locals in newquay seem 2 gt out much faster!...do i duck dive too shallow? Is it jus case of improving paddling power?...Ahhhh !! jus really want few bits of advice as am teaching myself really. ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED! Ta guys, Add
