I spent Easter weekend this year learning through reef surf school.

A group of us stayed at their lodge in Newquay for 3 nights with breakfast. The accom plus three half days surfing was 120 quid each, which i didnt think was too bad. If you book at certain times you can get all that for 49 quid...I think! It was all relatively new and clean. The only problem was that if there was an odd number of peolple in the group (like ours) then you had to bunk in with people you didnt know, which is OK if they dont snore at night!! I would recommend a group of 4.

As I said though, we went around Easter (March) which is supposed to be the coldest time of the year as the sea has lost all its heat through the winter. I didnt find it too bad, but I am a large northerner! Some of the group found it cold. As mentioned in earlier threads I would go around now.

This is R S S web address. I have to say that they were very good and at the time of year we went there were no more than 8 in our group.

I hope this helps

If you're a total beginner just go to the BSA (British Surfing Association) surf school on Fistral.

I learnt there and they're very good.

Its quite warm in summer (although a long way off Aussi waters!).

Got to be brave to do winter though - definately not for me although if I lived down there I probably would.

Unfortunately I'm up near Seaslave in the North so the inclination for an 8 hour drive to freeze to death just isn't that strong!

Maybe, but lets face it, first time out i'm not gonna want huge waves, and i'll most likely spend more time in the sea than on the board . It'd be like sitting in an ice bath! Maybe next winter!! Don't tell me you brave the sur at this time of the year?!

It is cold 24/7, but that doesn't mean we're crazy enough to go in the sea at this time of year!!! I'll probably be cold in summer in all honesty! If anyones got tips on how to stay warm let me know!!! Otherwise i'll be the lass on the beach who looks like she's just swam over from the Arctic!
