Talking 'ello to y'all! Intending to hit Newquay this summer to learn to surf -HELP!

Had a blast at windsurfing for 6 months (about 2 years ago) and came to the conclusion that the gear was breaking the bank - and the social life on Hayling Island was plop! This year (provided the cash'll get saved instead of drunk!) - I wanna be on them there beaches hittin' the surf and havin' a blast! Anyone recommend a good surf school, places to crash, rock clubs, secondhand gear shops ?
Also - has anyone got any contacts for the run to the sun weekend thing ? Play guitar in a rock band - would be class if we could somehow blag playin' that!
Cheers for any advice!
And.
