Keen but nervous

I'm new on here and hoping to come down to Newquay from next week up until 18th Aug (V festival then!) Just wondered if anyone has advice for someone who is terrified of water? Have been like that since a baby and no explanation for it. Very drawn to it though and have managed to control it enough to learn to dive (am fine at depth, it's the surface that bothers me) So this is my final hurdle in trying to get rid of the phobia and it's a pretty big one! Any advice on best places to go / people to contact for lessons? I reckon I might start to get somewhere after about 3 weeks...I've done 35 dives now and still refuse to jump in off the edge of the boat! Sounds traumatic (and it is) but I love it as soon as I'm done and can't wait to go again!!
Also - where are the best, chilled hangouts for my little camper to stay? Never been down before and don't want to end up surrounded by kids....

hey polly, welcome to the forum. not too sure about lessons etc, but there are loads of cool places to stay. for example, run to the sun is cool (although you've missed it this year) but stay away from places like sunnyside and smuglers.

i stayed at tregustic, and i loved it s i've been there three years in a row, but, at 20 i feel abit old there . tbh, i am not too sure about many other places close to newquay were you can camp. theres trethiggy, but i have never been there

Wink

I find a couple of glasses of claret usually calms the nerves quite nicely, both before and after hitting the water

Good luck :-)

hello, welcome to the forum.
if u dont mind not being in newquay it self you could try watergate bay campsite and the surf school on the beach there or head a bit further along the coast to polzeath.
