Hi there & welcome to the forum.
You can do what we advise many & browse the forum as well as use the search facility of the forum to answer your questions. Also a GOOGLE or YAHOO on Newquay or similar wording like surfing in Newquay will hold many sites which will have what you seek.
At that time of year the surf can be small to non existant so be warned, but with great weather comes small swell. Plus your also depending on wind direction and the direction of the incoming swell this can all effect which beach will be the best for that hour, day or week! You can often find that if Fistral is supurb the bay is pants, but the next its the other way round! Your best looking at sites like :
www.magicseaweed.com
for regular updates.
As for chilling then it depends if you like wild nights of clubbing or actually taking it easy.
Newquay is full of bars & clubs that attract the usual 'chav' or twat types. Most of us locals go out of town & we guard our secret spots well to stop invasion of these types

Again depending on where your staying they will recommend some places if its a surf lodge. Hotels may just direct you to the usual spots. A lot of students & surfer wannabe's will go to the Red Lion near the harbour but its still popular & Fistral Blu seems to be getting more popular even if you pay London prices for beer in there !!!
Hope that helps but use the search facilities as I said.
