Is a longboard the right choice for me?

Hola todos,

I am a London-based beginner surfer, I get down to Cornwall once a year, I also get over to North Wales where my parents retired to and understand that there is some surfing to be had nearby. My local patch is Joss Bay in Kent, which is 1 & half hours away...

Basically I want to buy a board that will suit how often I can get out, which is going to be around every 6 weeks only. I'm thinking that a longboard will suit me most, as I understand that it will take far less practice to get to grips with than it would a shortboard?

I want to have maximum fun/reward on my rare days out, and the surf in Joss Bay is often not that great, again reasons why I reckon a Longie will suit... Enough of what I have to say, what do you think...???

Thanks,
Jeff

HOLA.

Check this out fella http://www.surfboardshack.com/surfboard-designs.html

I'm a beginner as well and I'm just going to hire a foamy a few times don't have to worry about damaging it then and then I'm buying a minimal to learn on.

What ever you decide enjoy yaself.

If your using JOSS BAY then a long board will be your best bet as good swell is often like rocking horse poo there

There is a good site as well for JOSS BAY for those who haven't heard of it :

http://www.jossbay.co.uk/Welcome.html

You'll notice as well that people who surf here all have long boards too.

Cheers guys,

I have been on a foamy 6 or 7 times when last down in Cornwall. On my last day I hired a Mini-mal and had some good fun on that, on the few times I managed to stand!

DO you think going strait onto a Longboard will be ok, or should I go for a mini-mal first...??

Thanks again,
Jeff
