Thumbs down

This is were i get unusally negative about something.I dont like the town beaches, for these reasons. There is no good surfing vibe on the town beaches. When you go out,you are waiting to be shouted at'You Cant Surf There'.So no,i wont be going down to the town beaches again, not even with a bodyboard.

My favorite surf spot (Towan)

Paddle out through the harbour for manageable waves when Fistral is too much (good shelter from SW winds too)

You think the bay is bad, you should try surfing at Perranporth, you're only allowed to surf between the black & white flags (unless you go out of the lifeguards sight, sort of defeats the object of having them there really!) Try going before the Lifeguards turn up in the morning (about 10:30) or after they've gone home (17:30)

Hey Andy,

Thought you couldn't surf on Towan. Isn't that a council run beach. I'm sure I've read on this forum that you get booted out of the water if you dare to mount a board. Only bodyboarding i think, or is it just out of season that youre allowed on.

If anyone knows, you will (Yokle)

Towan surfing

I've been booted off this beach myself but as has been mentioned before on here, this is the busiest beach and the kiddies have to have somewhere to play. You can always surf there before 10am or after 6pm when the lifeguards are not around or just go round the corner a bit, just past the bridge, the lifeguards don't bother you then.

Like Sad?Old Hippie said, you have to go there when the Lifeguards are away, it's a free for all then (there's normally no-one there before the lifeguards turn up an people normally go home soon after the lifeguards are gone). I go before/after work or early morning on a weekend so I don't have any problems.

At the moment you cant even walk down Towan beach! Was dragged down there by insistent family members last week and believe me it is nothin short of manic on there at the moment.

You cant even find room to swim let alone surf!

Always beats me with all the stretch of beach, right up to Lusty, why most tourists cram themselves together down on Towan:confused

Thank god I've got the secret beach n nooooo, not tellin

Wouldn't go on Towan if you paid me. It's a dump! The CFH wanted to go when we were there last week, but totally refused. Think I prefer the wide open spaces.

Wouldnt call the beach itself a dump, when its empty its a lovely lookin beach.

It becomes a dump when evryone goes on it. Can't understand with the long stretch of beaches right up to Porth why evryone heads for Towan. Was Down that way last week n you couldnt find a place to walk along it neva mind sit down.

Tourists, they can be so predictable sometimes!

Talking

I love to do my sponger bit at Towan, or the Wedge as it use to be known about 10 years ago.

Its great, especially in Autumn or Spring with the right conditions to paddle out of the harbour (who am I kidding - jump off the walls !!!) to get an immediate ride. Plus at high tide if I'm suicidal to get some air from a back splash of the wall or the good ole aforementioned wedge !!!

Yep, can be a groccle nightmare in the main season, but its good towards the end of the day for the sun going down session when there all at their hotels. Plus alot of women before the night out of come down to check whats goin on from about 8pm onwards in the season !!!

Me, I love Towan - especially on the occasions when I can get the car in the car park too !!!
