Oh my beloved Fristral Beach.I have so many memories, dont know where to start.I met Occy at Fristral, after he had just been interviewed. It was early in the day, with just myself about,he is so kewl. That was the time Hot Tuna were doing Surf comps there. Its where i learnt to surf. But i have to say,i prefere Fristral out of season to surf, than in season.Yes,its a bit cold, but the waves are so much better.I could go on and on about Fristral, but i wont'lol'.

A good winter beach (or early in the morning or late evening)
a lot of wannabe locals at the north end (people in their teens - early twenties with a strong brummy/northern/london/'any other non cornish' accent, are no more locals than I am), people get more chilled out the further towards the south end you go.
If there is surf, it'll be at Fistral (if there's surf at Fistral, there'll normally be another beach with better surf)

Lusty's the one for me
Yep I just love Lusty. Well for chillin' anyway. I guess once I become a dab hand at surfing (and I will!!) I will have preferences for beaches with good waves as opposed to beaches with all the amenities. Watch this space

Once the new centre on Fistral is finished, you should have the best of both worlds (waves and facilities), about time too! when I was in Portugal, most beaches had better facilities than Fistral! '...one of Europes premier surfing beaches...' (and Portugal is supposed to be one of the poorest countries in Europe!)

When are the changes to take place on Fistral?
When I get on the beach, I don't want to leave. If there are all the facilities that I need, all the better. As you say, even abroad in tropical countries, the facilities are all on the beach. I don't want the have to trek half a mile to the toilets only to queue for an hour for a pee. And If food is available too, then I don't have to drag bags full of sarnies and cold drinks to keep me going all day. I'm all for it!

Oh by the way, I'm one of those Northerners at the North end of the beach. Does this mean you don't want me on your beaches?

I think that phase-1 (all the commercial stuff, shops etc) is due to be ready by the beginning of July (looking good for that date, windows going in, paving going down), and phase-2 (offices etc) will be ready d'recly!

Sorry, I meant in the water, the waves tend to be better there, so the people in the water tend to be stroppier.

Best Kept Secret?
Call me wierd if you like but I've lived in this beautifull place for over two years and never surfed Fistral yet! My favourite is a bit further up the coast, great waves and never busy. Been told by others not to tell, but you know where it is don't you! Fistral is always so busy but then again it's bound to be with it's reputation. The new facilities were looking good last time I ventured up that way, it's not before time they were done.

Newquay is steamin' mate, there's people everywhere. Even Whips' beach has been bustin' the last few days and it's usualy quite up there. I spent today in the harbour which as usual wasn't too busy and the view of Towan beach was frightening, you couldn't move for bodies. Must be this fantastic heatwave we're having.

£10 a day for a custom board (probably cheaper if you get it for the whole week)
