Best Newquay Pubs ?
When i used to go down to Newquay in the old days,my favourite pub used to be The Red Lion. The pool table used to be at the front of the pub, where i could drink, play pool and watch the sunset over the harbour.
Then things changed, the pool table got placed in the back of the pub.The pub got redecorated, and became more of a food place rather than a pub for surfers.
So now my favourite pub is AW secret local.
So where is your favourite pub in or around Newquay?,and why?.

THE FORT is nice out of season with the views over the Harbour, The Wedge sweeping up to Porth etc.
Hellish though in the bleedin season with bloody kids running around ...
(Where's the nerve gas cannisters ...)
However personally ... Newquay doesn't have one now.

I don't mind the Mermaid in Porth. The jukebox has every UK top 40 chart song since 1952 on it!

The CHY BAR use to be a really nice pub with good food called CHY AN MOR which translates from Cornish to English to House by the Sea ...
(Though it is actually missing a word in its true translation of Chý dré an mór! )
It overlooked TOWN & what was the old cinema before that too was turned into another bloody WALKABOUT ...
However I digress ... I've been in the CHY at least once a year for the last couple of years & it has no soul. Plus midweek last year it seemed to contain young girls & much older blokes - bar staff didn't find it amusing when I asked was it a special father & daughters night So for those from the major towns & city's they will probably love it but those I've been in there with ... NAH

Thanks for all the info AW.
According to the carve booklet, they have a rock night there on a Saturday. So next time i am down,i will probably call in to see what the place is like.
As a surfing veteran,i wonder if i will meet any younger women in there.

just to annoy AW i'll keep this thread going.
i was down this weekend and had a top night in Sailors bar where they had a battle of the bands on very entertaining especially the lad who sang about big ginger girls.
we spent the rest of the time in the bar side of Koolas latin nigt with bongo's and saxaphone on Friday, and northern soul on sat and only one stag night in all weekend it's great they all seem to bypass this place and head down to the worst spot in Newquay walkabout. only downside is the drinks are a bit pricey but it's worth it for the grown up atmosphere.
oh and thanks to the chavved up t055ers from essex who woke us up at 4am Sat and Sun morning having running battles with whoever they could, I couldn't believe it was the same inbred single celled ameobas both times.
with any luck they'll do the world a favour and hurry up and drop dead and never come back to Newquay.

why the roll of the eyes for Snailors it was a good night probably not indicative of most nights there but a good night never the less. Thinking about it your probably best moving it off the list AW in case it gives folk the wrong idea
