Isn't Croyde supposed to have a bad reputation for being packed/hassle/'people dropping in on you', even in the winter?

(Never surfed there so I'm only going on other peoples experience. I've got a friend in Bristol that will drive to Newquay rather than surf Croyde!)

It depends on what you ride most of the time. I ride short, so prefer the step face that croyde offers. However I cant lie, I have had some good sessions at saunton.

Croydes where it all started for me, my first taste of the blue juice, but I prefer saunton or putts when its going off. Crazy busy during the sumer though don't bother getting wet until the sun is starting it's slow decent.

I've only been surfing for just over a year but it all started off season at Croyde.

The Beach is always clean and well patrolled but does go mental in high season, Putsborough or Saunton are better if you want a bit of space, but Croyde is faster.

I live 10miles from Croyde.

I find its the busier of the beaches and the life guard patrols are good however the distance between the flags is a bit small for the number of people so it does get a bit choppy.

I visit Croyde with my girlfriend a couple of times a month throughout the winter (sentimental value as on the first day we met, thats where we went) and watch the very few surfers. At the End of Fed we visisted and there was just one person surfing and then us on the beach so i don;t think it gets crowded in winter.

Saunton - Thats where i've just had a surf lesson and it was a LOT less crowded than Croyde however still pretty busy but it is high season!

Puts is usually quieter althogh i rarely go there.

Woolcombe feels less densely populated to me, but that could just be me, it gets pretty busy esp at this time of the year (July)
