Question Surfboard theft

Hi everyone, i am new to surfnewquay message board so please forgive me if I come over as a bit lost.

I have surfed all my life a a lone surfer of 43, and just enjoy, livinbg the beach life, I still enjoy the competition scene and try to keep up with it and I was fortunate enough to sponser Elliott Dudley who has just flown out to compete in JAPAN. So good luck Elliott....

I am a south wales surfer and my favourite break in Wales is Sker point near Rest Bay a fantastic point break with a real mellow shape to it that goes on for 150 to 200 mtres on good days.

Any way my point is I recently went through a major upset when I had my boards stolen in France. Have any of you lost or had boards pinched? its not just the boards either its the wetsuit the boardbag the lot goes...

My experience of this was shocking interms of police interest and insurers and the returns you receive after excess payment etc... what can be done by the surfing industry to reduce board theft. Your stories and experience of having a board stolen would be useful so please email these stories with the lengths people go to steal your boards. I recently heared of a gut who had a ex Mick Fanning board swiped in Portugal. Nobody deserves that kind of treatment. All we want to do is catch some waves how simple is that. But there are *******s who are a minority group who like to spoil and it them I am going to combat with your support.

I look forward to your thoughts and comments. Thanks for reading

Are they surfers or thieves?

I think that a lot of the people who steal boards aren't surfers, they are after the resale value of he board, or at least that's the case here.

Sorry to hear about your loss Peanuts. It has happened to me in Sydney Oz and I am now so muck more careful.

I now lock my sons and my boards to the roof using a Gumby Lock. I also use it on the motor bike.

Check em out...

Peace.
