I used them myself and found them to be excellent with stock availability and plenty of free advice.

Thank you for clue ( very useful ) !!!

But the main thing is an raw foam , I dont want to buy ready blank ....

I have an ambition to go trough whole process !

This may not be humble but I'm quite talented manual worker and also i'd avoid high price of ready blank when i'm able to prepare it myself !

Do you know the place to buy polyurethane foam not ready blank ,

Take care ,
i'll be informing you how is the job going

I don't know where you can get plain foam. You are thinking of cutting it yourself and placing stringer as well?

I liked premade blanks as stringer is already glued in place. Even thought blanks look like a board, you will still need to cut your own board shape out of it and plane whole thing into your desired thickness. This is quite a lot of work in its own right so I never even considered making my own blank.

I made around 15-20 boards with each one getting better then the previous one. Some of the later ones were better then some on sale in the shops, even if I say so myself. I can not describe the feeling I have while carrying/riding my own creation.

for those who had raw blank in their hands ,

is it slightly soft polyurethane or totally hard ?
if it's soft what makes it hard , only resin ?

thx
i think i found polyurethane block ok to make a blank myself

I thought you could get foam that you spray as a kind of liquid from a pressurised can & then after a few seconds it can be trimmed or shaped?

I don't have expertise in this area so forgive me if I'm talking the wrong stuff!

Foam in spray checked ! :-)
Unfortunately , cheapest one i found 750ml 2x - £9.99 from wickes doesn't last for much , around 10 - 12 cans for 8 footer , easier to buy a blank .....
its "up to 37 litres a can ....

sorry

Making your own blanks is a pain but if you really want to as long as your using epoxy resin then you can use Expanded polystyrene foam, make a wooden template and a large how wire cutter.

You should beahle to find a company in your area that produces and cuts this type of foam, go for the highest density thay sell. because the foam is lighter you will need extra layers of glass. if the foam has a loss bead structure (the little balls of foam) then once the blank is shaped then you will need to seal the foam with either fine grade poly filla mixed with bottled water or a mix of resin and qcell/cabocil/microballons.

when you consider the extra expence of the extra glass and resin and good quallity epoxy is more expensive that poly then the cost saved in foam are not worth the extra work involved.

Even if you by a blank then there is still a considerable amount of shapping that needs to be done its not just acase of buying a blank and glassing it.

I would recomend; Machine gun blanks, Seabase (in newquay) or home blown. all are happy to help and will deliver.

a blank has a crust on the surface that need to be removed before it can be shaped. the foam gets softer towards the middle of the blank so you should only shape minanaly on the deck and take most the material from the bottom to get it to the right thickness.

the finished blank needs to be glassed with fibre glass cloth and resin, this make the hard shell that you see on boards
