Simple yet effective

Just bought the September Sessions - Jack Johnson DVD (Thicker Than Water is in the post) and loved it for the reason that it's far less commercial that average surf films. The Endless Summer I love for the same reason but that was a time when big brands hadn't been established.

For me, the best surf DVD's have minimal commentary, a well matched soundtrack and show the drive to the beach, the paddle out, the wipeouts, as well as wave riding. You're there with the guys/gals for everything that makes up a session.

But big budget commercial films have more dynamic viewpoints, under the wave, on the board, from the air etc... and make for spectacular viewing. (But then again any surf film ever made would have heli shots if someone else were paying for it...)

Can anyone recommend simple but fascinating surf films? Or if you have anything you've produced?

I agree with you, i love watching a surf dvd that you dont have to focus on too much. Sometimes there is too much going on which is why i like tha jack johnson ones - especially thicker than water.

I would be interested in any other dvd's too

I love both Endless Summer movies as well as Big Wednesday and others.
To be honest I have not seen either September Sessions nor Thicker Then Water but this will be corrected shortly as I will order my copies.

I was thinking recently about which other surf movies would be worth owning (could be watched over and over) so if you have any other suggestions PLEASE let me know.

One of my personal Favs is Kelly Slater Trials and Trimphs (think thats spelt wrong!) Its a film i can watch over and over again and i love the fact its the story behind why he had a gap without winning and the challenges he had. I also think its not boring which is good because some films can just drag on a bit.
