Simple yet effective
Just bought the September Sessions - Jack Johnson DVD (Thicker Than Water is in the post) and loved it for the reason that it's far less commercial that average surf films. The Endless Summer I love for the same reason but that was a time when big brands hadn't been established.
For me, the best surf DVD's have minimal commentary, a well matched soundtrack and show the drive to the beach, the paddle out, the wipeouts, as well as wave riding. You're there with the guys/gals for everything that makes up a session.
But big budget commercial films have more dynamic viewpoints, under the wave, on the board, from the air etc... and make for spectacular viewing. (But then again any surf film ever made would have heli shots if someone else were paying for it...)
Can anyone recommend simple but fascinating surf films? Or if you have anything you've produced?
