Get your cameras down to Fistral - NOW!!

Anyone seen the surf report for this morning?

Cribbar expected to be working at 3 to 4 x overhead!!!

Quote:
South Fistral Surf Conditions:
Report for Sunday 15th January 2006 courtesy of BPSA
8.15 am
Strong SE ( offshore ) winds at the moment blowing huge amounts of spray off 1.5 overhead waves . Double overhead set waves coming through and looking fairly well lined up after yesterdays mess. Swell is set to build and the pushing tide this afternoon could see some Cribbar action which will be around 3 to 4 times ovehead !
Gloomy day for weather ,overcast , rain and windy .
Remember there is no life guard service on fistral beach until later in the year .
Happy waves !

Assuming there's some towing in, should be a great photo opportunity.

I'd come myself but ti would be dark before I'd get there!!

Dunno.

Could see nothing from the Fistral Web cam, its been on the blink recently and quality is still poor albeit an improvement on what they used to have.

I might be missing something here but I struggle to understand why web cam companies still try to obtain stills from web cams (which are essentially vid cams) as video captures are always poor. Given the low cost of still cameras you'd think they'd rig a mega pixel still camera up instead and trigger it via a timer and use a macro also triggered by the timer to trigger the image transfer software to transfer it to a viewing folder.

I'm sure it would be possible but still.

Yeah but high megapixel jpg's are like 3mb+ so would take ages to load and use up far to much bandwidth

I'm not sure thats a problem anymore as most people now have ADSL.

A 3-4mb JPEG is only a few second download on a 1-2mb connection. I'd wait.

Bandwidth is a different issue but as most of these web sites have sponsorship deals, and are on commercial connections, I doubt bandwidth would be something that couldn't be overcome.
