Question Does anyone know anything about my Board?

Hi,
I was given a board a few years back by a mate who pulled it out of a skip way up country. Its a Newquay board shaped/sold by Martin Richards Surfboards of Newquay. Does anyone out there know these guys? The board is approx 8' to 9' long, with a single black fin and the leash attaches via a hole drilled in the base of the fin.

Since moving down to cornwall I've had the dings sorted and have even got it wet in Poldue Cove.

Any info would be gratefully recieved.

Cheers
E-B

I don't know about Martin Richards but there was a Mark Richards who was a famous surfer from Australia who shaped the original Free Ride Twinfin during the winter of 1977 which became a ground-breaking surfboard lifting performance surfing to new levels.

You can still get his classic boards built as well including the one mentioned above :

Thanks Guys,

the boards in the pictures are very similar in shape to mine, I've taken some pictures so see what you think. It was shaped by Martin Geary, have you heard of him? Is he still down this way?

Closest in shape and size I could find is "The Big Guy".

Which I'm guessing is a big guys short board:

That said yours looks slightly wider in the nose and forward section but that could just be how the design has evolved over the years, who knows. Either way, nice find.

I just need some surfers and some skips near me now....

I finally have managed to find the info i needed.

My board was made between 1966 and 1969 by Martin Geary (aka Gearbox)

He is still in Newquay and making miniature boards.

I wonder if anyone could place a value on it? Museum piece if anything.

thanks to all those who have helped.

E-B
