Beach Showers
Hi..
I’m at Bournemouth Uni completing my final year in product design, and I’m looking to gather some info on a project of mine. I'm in the process of developing a portable shower unit specifically for surfers in a response to the bitterly cold weather that most of you are exposed to in the uk. The last thing you want after surfing in the Atlantic is to use a cold shower to wash the salt out, this is if you can find one in the first place! To understand the market a little better I would appreciate it if you guys could share your experiences of using beach showers... what issues have you faced with beach showers…What would you change… Do you think there is a need to shower off? Its bit of a weird one I know, but I think there’s some potential. Anyhow let me know how you feel.
Much appreciated
Thanks

What a great idea! (however, i think all the inventions on dragon's den are great too, only for the dragons to slash them to bits a mere second later) I would definitely be up for a hot shower after a parky winter surf. I am a girl, though. The hardcore lot will say 'pfft!' and pretend they wouldnt use them (when really they would!)
If you could make it so you could take your wettie off in a hot shower out of the wind, maybe in a capsule or something and a dry bit to put your pants on and stuff. It's a nightmare trying to wrestle a bra on and do up the fastenings with numb fingers and wet skin and still maintain a level of modesty. I always manage to flash at least a handful of unsuspecting folk.....
Dammit, where do I sign up??!!!

Mate I keep telling you that beaches are not like those remote car parks you like visiting where 'flashing' takes place
In regards to idea 'BOURNEE' its a good one definitely. Though after coming out of mother ocean, even when she's at her coldest in March a cold shower really has no effect as it still often feels warmer than the sea, lol!
However bear in mind that for many years now the armed forces have a item like a hot water bottle you hang somewhere with a hose / shower type section on that works via gravity & is switched on or off depending where you hang the tube! The bag acts like a thermos too so hot water remains that way for quite some time & cold stays cold so its good for artic or desert conditions.
For your 'surfers' idea maybe something that can be hung, like off the steps at FISTRAL near the complex or can be held above your head ... or by mate standing on the car roof

We've got one of those little black bag showers and for £4 they ain't bad but it ain't as good as a watering can. The simple solutions are often the best.
And stop telling everyone it's me in the car park

A Shower is always good straight from the sea but wouldn't you get hot aches in the colder months jumping into a hot shower?
Hot-aches? (try putting your hand under the hot tap after a snowball fight!)
I know that mostly happens temperature extremes but could still be a problem if its too hot.
Personally I always liked to jump in my mates hot tub after a surf but cant really pop them on the beach.
Back to the point..
Showers would be great. Just a small cubicle with enough room to wash and change into dry clothes.
the problem is sourcing the water, if its on a beach how do you plumb them in?
The Showers at Fistral are pitiful, its a cubicle of 6 showers compleately open and visible to any public. at best you get a steady unspread stream from each showerhead which degrades if there is more than one shower on. and they are plummbed into the building.
I dont really mind that people get an odd flash whilst i'm changing its the unimpressed looks from the girls showers that bother me the most.
i know you probably have some good ideas for your project you want to keep to yourself but can you give us any details of what you had in mind so far. then we could give more accurate comments.
